Training & Nutrition - natural sports drinks?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a sports drink without any artificial chemicals.
ie. artificial color, artificial flavor, preservatives, etc.

while i'm not sure of an answer to the OP query, both juice and water, have "problems"
While juice does supply carbohydrates and electrolytes, juice (assuming you mean something like orange juice) has it's carbohydrate in the form of fructose. This can cause GI problems
On the other hand water isn't an energy drink, so isn't very useful (by itself)

the only problem with juice as an energy drink is that it is too high in carbohydrates. if you dilute it with ice or just water it is fine. if you drink something that is too carbohydrate dense, the fluid actually "pulls" water from your small intesetine to break down the the excess carbs. don't get me wrong, i'm not carb bashing at all and i do not support low carb diets in any way, this is just how the body works. i like to fill up a water bottle with iced green tea and a little sugar. this way i control the carb ratio, it tastes good so i'll drink it, and i get a little caffeiene (which is also a bit of a diaretic, but i like green tea.)
