Nice video! I tried snowshoeing once but found a strange dude in the trees talking to himself and watching me from a distance. Kind of creeped me out so I never went back!:roflmao2:

Nice pictures too. Did they come out of th video recorder (stillshots?). Much nice than the stillshots I get from my recorder.

Earlena took the stills with a digital SLR. The video was shot with my new Sony Handicam Video camera. It does stills, too, though and does a pretty good job.

For years my family ran a trap line in the winter, muskrat, beaver, mink, fisher, ermin and when I see snow shoes I think of work, we still have grandpas old swamp willow and rawhide shoes made by algonquin tribe near our families trapping rights. It does give one heck of a workout for sure.

Snow-shoeing is indeed an awesome experience.

A few weeks ago, I went out on my snow-shoes at midnight on Sunday morning. I strolled around the woods out behind our place until about 2:30 AM, covering about three miles of both forest ond open fied, in moonlight, before finally heading in and calling it a night. The surrounding silence was incredible. I could hear owls hooting that must have been a mile away.

Not only that, but, the workout, lifting those feet while pumping the arms with ski poles, is pretty intense. I felt my heart pumping about as hard as it does when I ride my bike.

Heck yeah, my family, my wife and some of our friends also do it. It's a fun way to get out!

I had a lot of fun snowshoeing when we lived in Colorado.

Some things I learned: If the snow is shallow enough or hard enough that you don't really need showshoes, it's better (easier) to strap them to your backpack than to wear them. If you're not on a slope, it's better (easier) to carry your ski poles horizontally than to walk them along beside you. For a little ways, doesn't much matter, but if you start covering several miles, you start noticing these things. And hard to tell from those pictures, but looks like that was more just snowboot country than showshoe country.

Hidden 4 and 5 foot gullies in the dune faces that were full of snow. It only looks flat. In the woods, there was an average of 28 inches to 3 feet of snow, too.

We went snowshoeing for the first time this past weekend at Yosemite. It was a 2 hour ranger-led excursion that climbed the original ski slope at Badger Pass. It was a workout for sure. We all had a blast and the views from the top were amazing.
