Foo - Should I tell my neighbor?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Both houses have the backyards fenced. But the space between the houses is accessible from the street. None of us have a light there so it get's very dark. Today I looked there from my backyard and spotted what appeared to be condom. I walked there and found the condom box, the condom wrapper and a used condom laying on the grass.
I haven't walk there since last week. And I've been working the last 4 nights so I have no clue about when that happened.
Do you think I should tell my neighbor about it? Both us have windows there.

Tell him but insinuate that it's him doing it. Involve lots of winking.

UPDATE
OK, it's more serious now. I keep walking around to see if I could find anything strange and found the remaining 2 condoms of the pack in MY BACKYARD. One of them was full with water. I looked closely at the other 2 and it seems they were all used as water bombs.
From the locations, it seems they filled one with the faucet on the side of my house, and the other 2 with the one in the backyard. They must had opened the backyard's gate and close it when they left.
I was in the backyard yesterday, where I found the one filled with water, and it wasn't there. So whoever did this, did it last night while I was inside the house with the kids.
Now I think I should call the police and make a report.

Good fences make good neighbors . . . .
I had that same problem with an open area between a neighbor's house and mine. Old lady who lives there kept potted plants in the area, but no real problems for 12 years until her 'packrat' ex-con son moved back home (spent time in prison for drug dealing). After asking him to move the stuff repeatedly (both me and his mom), I spent a long weekend building a fence between the two houses.
Didn't like imposing on the old lady, but she understands why I did it, and actually likes the look of the fence. Problem solved, sanity restored.

Good call. If the condoms had been used for their intended purpose, all would have been well and good.
How about if you ask your neighbor if she knows anything about a recent water balloon fight first?
You can't hear the water running from inside your house?

So, uh Ruben... Wasn't it your son that loved to play war with his water gun? Check your daughter to see if her clothes are soaking wet.
I think you need to hide your condoms better.

Update
Well, I was outside checking the car when a police car stopped at my neighbors. I heard them talking about some stuff missing from their backyard so I called the officer and told him what I've found on mine. He said he will call in another officer to take the official report and asked me to check everything around the house to make sure nothing was missing.
Another officer came by shortly, took the report and told me they received a few calls last night about strangers lurking around in the backyards. On some cases, stuff was broken or missing but mine was the first report involving a condom water balloon fight. :notamused:
Some other neighbors came by and asked if me and the kids were OK. They were very concerned and talked about moving their grills back inside their houses. They all LOLed about the condoms. We all agreed that it was a let down finding out the condoms were used for a balloon fight instead of their intended purpose.
What's really annoying about the whole thing is that this house is a duplex and when the water is running on the other side it sounds like it's in here. Now I feel the need to check my backyard every time my neighbor flushes the toilet... and it's a family of 4...

If you're renting, I'd say move. If you're not, install a security light if you can.
If the biggest problem that you have is kids using condoms as water balloons, that's not a bad problem to have. Of course, its not fun finding the mess afterwards.

Security light for the win. I recently moved from a very bad neighborhood (final straw was hearing gun shots at 11pm). I knew it was a bad neighborhood when I moved in, but it was only temp. and generally, if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. Regardless I picked up a motion sensing light socket/box and mounted it to the existing outdoor light on the garage. The neighbor told me a few times bout ppl snooping around then scattered when the light came on. WIn win would be an outdoor security light that also triggers a lamp inside near the rear window, if thats possible.

Yes.. that's actually possible. I had a system like that when I lived in San Juan (really really bad neighborhood). I used X10 (http://www.x10.com/products4/google/home2.html) equipment... a couple of sensors in the outside and 2 lamp modules set to the same code (one outside and one inside). Worked like a charm... not even the iguanas could pass trough without triggering the sensors. But I'm kinda broke now so the motion sensing flood light will have to do.

For only slightly more than the motion sensing flood light you can wire something up yourself, assuming you have some basic wiring skills. Get the motion sensing flood light, then between the fixture and the bulb put in one of those things that screws in to a light socket and has a plug. Run the cord from an indoor light to that plug, and both will turn on. Do make sure that the combined power of the lights isn't greater than what the motion detecting fixture is rated for.

But he lives in Florida. Pretty near the whole state is either unaffordable, or neighborhoods like his. :p

I like the automatic sprinkler trick...(I actually like the paintball sentry better, but then they would get pizzed and vandalize your crap for real) With the sprinkler they just blame themselves for being stupid.

Yep, as much as the kids will hate it, if the neighbor has teenagers, the parents ought to be told.

Fill up water balloons and let them have it. Nothing a little lite violent encounter wouldn't solve. Call in sick for tomorrow now.
Stay up all night drinking coffee and waiting for the hoodlums.
Spring out from behind them and start throwing water balloons at them.
After your finished take them inside get them dry offer them something to drink and remind them of the importance of properly using a condom there by preventing people like them from screwing around in your back yard in 15 years.

You could ask the guys from Big Bang Theory to install the same security system in your backyard that they put in their apartment. The electrified capture net is pretty cool.

What was the process that led you to the conclusion that the used condom you found had previously had water in it, rather than something else?

It must be a nice neighborhood...when we were kids we couldn't afford condom water balloons. We had to use balloons:rolleyes: If that is the neighborhood drama consider yourself lucky.

Man, you guys must have rich kids hanging around - for the price of a 3 pack you can get hundreds of water balloons! ;)

Those magnumsŪ probably really pack quite a punch! The cost may be minimal for them, some high schools give them away for free, and some universities sell a box of 12 for $1.00...Sounds more like something a high schooler would do though. Maybe they thought that throwing condoms would be safer...
