g'day,

it's not accurate. Under the same conditions, I get different results every week. Last weeks was 63. I'm 43,

cheers,

Don't you need to enter your resting heart rate in order for the Polar to run the fitness test?

resting hr is used in the calculation, however i believe it uses the level you are at while lying down for the test and not an entered value.

G'day,

Nuh....it doesn't ask you that in order to run the test. I'm not sure whether it refers back to the info that you put in the 'user' specs or not when arriving at a number, (supposedly a VO2 max calculation). My coach has us run the test on a weekly basis, more as a base guide than anything else. You're supposed to do it under the same conditions each time & it will produce a consistant result. Problem is, it doesn't. I can have the same resting heartrate for the duration of the test (36) 2 weeks apart, & it will give vastly different results!....we emailed polar in Finland a while back asking how the test worked, but the answer was all this technical hoo haa that no-one really understood anyway. Email them if you are interested, you might better understand Finnish-English than I did!.....

cheers,

Hitchy

how vastly different?

by the way,
I entered "top" physical activity as I do about 30 training miles a day. For fun I did a test on "low" and got a score of 35!! I have no idea how this test works, very interesting.

G'day,

I get a score anywhere between 55 & 65, which are in the top range for my age. If you turn that 'own HR' thingy on, it will 'deposit' that info into the monitor....only problem is it's max HR prediction for me is about 25 bPM below my real max, so I keep it off. It stuffs up all your graphs for HR zones & things if you don't get it right. The test is interesting, but as no-one, except perhaps Polar, knows exactly what it is testing & what info it uses to reach a particular result, I wouldn't take it to seriously. Does yours show erratic results or have U just got it?

ive tested myself about 5 times sitting. standing around and gotten anywhere between 63 and 68. Seems to be pretty reliable considering my different states.

Odd that you guys are getting such disparate results. I've been testing about 1x/week for the last 3 mos., and I get between 52 and 54 every single time. I'm very careful to follow the instructions....same time of day, rest a few minutes first, lying down w/arms at side.

Now I'm not at all saying that I understand what it means, or if it means anything at all, but FWIW I do get very consistent #s.

BTW, I'm 41 and weigh 158. Set on "HIgh" activity level.
