Foo - Bones, rawhides, schmizzle izzle pizzle.

So on Christmas a relative gives me a pack of 'bones' for the dogs. I've never seen any like this, and I'm pretty particular about what they eat. So I look at the ingredients to see what it is. Hmm. Steer Pizzle... what the heck is that?? My niece (a cowgirl, seriously) says that this is err........cow penis. I laughed at her and said "nu uh!!" She giggled and said "Yep, auntie. It's PENIS".

I know what you mean about being fussy.....first thing I check on pet treats is to make sure they are MADE IN THE USA. I've heard horror stories about treats made in China and other places that don't have same regulations and god knows what is contaminating the treats.

As far as steer pizzle...have no clue. I'd ask at one of the high end pet stores in the area. Surely you have some...we have plenty.

I find it disturbing, but when our dog was a puppy, she was a big fan of the dried cow penis, which we used to find at Petco as "Bully Sticks", a somewhat less annoying name. We can't find them anymore, and I always got a little freaked out watching her chew on it, so we don't bother.

BTW-
I have a knife with part of the handle made from petrified walrus penis. Really. I think the eskimos used them as clubs, they look almost like small baseball bats. I think they are called something like ulu or ubu, can't remember. It was a great source of jokes at knife shows. Ocasionally a knifemaker would bring one to a show and ask pretty girls to guess what it was.
