After being diagnosed with diabetes in early 2008 and started to take medicine, I noticed my blood sugar was going up and down like yo-yo and asked my doctor, the good doc advised me to start exercise to lessen the dependency of the drugs. After a year of jogging and running, the blood sugar was really in control, but the knee started hurting. Looking for a replacement exercise, the good doc told me to try bicycling. I started with an in-door cycling class at a local community college. I then signed up for the out-door cycling class after the semester ended. The coach took a bunch of newbies to Rose Bowl area to practice and eventually to San Gabriel Mountains (West Fork), Marian Corps Camp Pandleton Camp, Santa Ana River Bikeway, and other locations. I was hooked and last summer, I stopped driving and started commute on bike to work! Now I am in excellent health and do not take medicine any more (the blood sugar's in check, the good doc said). For riding the bike, I rescued myself, what a deal...
