Mountain Biking - The best hydro disc brakes for x-c racing.

Right now I have shimano XTR v-brakes on my Litespeed. I am getting sick of them sticking ad their poor wet weather performance. What hydro disc brake should I get. I don't really want to dish out the extra money for the XTR disc. Are the XT good and reliable? Hayes?

Xt are excellent. Probably the second most used on the shore. Good in all conditions.

Hayes HFX-9 xc are nice, you can go for the Mag to lower the weight. Magura Martha's look great for xc racing as well, so do Hope Mono Mini's. New and old XT are also good so I hear, for that matter Deore 556's are well liked as well. Can't really go wrong with most setups me thinks.

Xt should be good if you have more money go XTR :D

I'm about to buy a Hope Mini for the front of my Klein Adept. I weigh 168 pounds and ride X Country. Which rotor size do you suggest, 160 or 180 mm?

160 definantly, with hydros i dont think it is necessary to have anything larger unless your doing dh

Didn't Magura have the lightest hydro disc on the market??? I can't remember the model.

I've tried the Hope Mini's on my friends bike, XT's and XTR's, not to mention Hayes Mag/Carbon's and Avid Juicy 9's.

For strictly lightweight I'd narrow my choices to either the Hope Mini's or the XTR's.

You want Bling,go to the MonoM4's but too heavy for XC. these feel like the proverbial stick in the wheel if you're not careful.
Mind You, The Hope mini's are like that with a 180mm disc, so go for a 160

I use Hope Mono Minis on both of my bikes, i would highly recommend them over hayes, the modulation is so much better. The mono minis are very powerful but if u need more the m4s will stop a truck!!! Fit the 160mm rotor and you'll never have to worry about stopping ever again, even in the wet/mud.

Hehe, im running m4's on both of my bikes at the moment too... A2 i think the magura brake your refering to is the gustav maybe?

The new dual control hydraulic XTs are good and reliable. But ...

1) You have to get used to dual control (I like it)
2) You have to accept that they are not the lightest on the market. Compared to your XTR V-brake, you may find the additional weight unacceptable if weight is very critical for you.

I've been certified to work on Magura brakes and can honestly say they are a pain in the XZX#*&@!!!!

I'll stick with my Hayes thank you!!! Don't mind the weight penalty.
