Down days, or rest days confuse me. What do you do on them? I usually only take down days from the weight training. Do you take rest days from cardio?

Heck yeah I do. My rest days are a total break from everything; I don't bike commute, I don't lift weights, I don't do my daily situps/pushups.
Tomorrow is a rest day for me, before my 200k on Saturday. I'm driving to work, I'll walk the 2 miles around the block with my dog after work... but not fast enough to be real exercise, then I'll lay on my couch and watch movies. I might consider playing some Dirt 2 on my X360, but the fun & excitement may raise my HR too much.
Seriously. I'm a total lump on my off days.

Range of motion, easy spinning, flexibility exercises.
And meditation time for clearing/resting the mind!

been off my training routine since getting back on the bike in November. However I would say just alternate what you do day to day; mix it up; add new stuff if you can. some days you gotta just run errands; some days you gotta just sleep late and watch movies on the couch. I try to have double or triple workouts where I can but I backed off on that because I needed to spend more time at home. A double or triple would be like swimming in the morning; running at lunch and weight training at night. A decent double for me would be swimming in the morning and weight training at night. In between days like that I would bike commute. Bike commuting definitely interferes with my swimming and weight training.

I usually take off Sat and Sun, and do nothing, now since I got the bike, I plan on doing 10-20 miles on Sat. But Sunday will always be me being a lump of meat laying around the house.
This gives my body time to recoup. I have lost 51 pounds since August 4th, so, it works, if it didn't work for me, I wouldn't take a day off.

Thanks for the replies. More down days incoming.
Thanks Clif, since one of the biggest issues has been the commuting, with work out, than doing the long rides of gym off days. I am thinking this was my recipe for burnout: )

Dude, I can only say this: you pedal 120 miles tomorrow, you can rest today. Guilt free.

I do a 14 mile round trip bike commute 5 days a week (and sometimes tack on a few extra miles for fun on the way home). Not huge miles, but not bad. It's an hour or so a day of riding five days a week. So, if I don't ride on weekends, which I quite often don't, I don't feel guilty. It's just two rest days a week.
