Local bike shop does not carry Specialized. Anyone know of a reputable mail order or online order company where I can order a Specialized? Specifically looking for a Rockhopper SL Expert.

No luck, unless it's used or they do it on the sly. Specialized does not do sales with web vendors.

Closest you will come to 'online-like' pricing on a Specialized is WheelWorld (http://wheelworld.com) in Culver City, CA. But you will have to purchase it in person or have a friend do it for you. Depending on what part of NV you're in, though, it might make a pleasant (long) day-trip to make it happen.

What they say:

"This manufacturer currently prohibits us from selling this item via Mail Order. We can only sell this item in our retail store. However, if you have a friend or a relative that can walk-in and make the purchase, we can ship it to where ever they ask. We are very sorry for the inconvenience but also want to remain loyal to our distributor’s wishes. Thank you for your understanding and please visit us soon!"

OTOH what brands does your local shop carry? At that level of bike there's similar offerings from most of the major brands...

Trek, Cannondale or Gary fisher. I like the shop; they did some work on my Gios road bike and was very satisfied.

i got my specialized expert on ebay. authorized dealers sometimes put there stock from last year online. just make sure they are an authorized dealer and ask them if they will send you a walk in invoice if you win the auction. You won't get the 1 year warranty but you qualify for the lifetime frame warranty from specialized. You can also get crazy deals.
