We're going to be in Mesa in mid-October and will have two-three days free. Anyone have recommendations on where to rent bikes and where to ride (road and/or path)?

Do not know about Mesa, but if you want to make the run into Scottsdale I may be able to help. Depending on where in Mesa you are going to be, Scottsdale can be about 15 minutes.

What type of bike are you looking for and what type of riding do you want to do (Road, Paths, etc)?

One thing I can tell you is if you ride the streets stay off the mains. Traffic out here is not heavy but speed is king. Speed Limits are just a number to see how far you can exceed. Turn signals are unheard of, Stop signs have little or no meaning and Red Lights are no better than Stop Signs. The Phoenix area is the Red Light running capital of the US, not by my standards but triple A. Right on red is legal and most drivers do not stop (if at all) until they are half way into the turn.

There are plenty of paths and other streets with bike lanes to ride. I'm not trying to scare you, just trying to give you a heads up.

There are a couple of really cool rides out here. I think the Bike Chalet over on Brown road rents bikes, and if they don't I know that Tempe Bicycle (in Tempe at Mill avenue and University) does. The ride up power road over to the salt river and back on Ellsworth is a nice 20+ mile ride. If you are into waking up real early for some really cool riding (early to beat the traffic as there is no shoulder) You could ride the Tortilla Flat ride which is really cool and I posted some pictures of it awhile back posted at this link ( http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=56145&highlight=tortilla+flat ) . Then there is always the ride out to Saguaro Lake and back as well. Feel free to PM me for details or any other questions on Mesa.
