Road Cycling - Marin San Marino or Trek 2200???

Ok, I need some help here, I can't make up my mind. I've narrowed my choice for a new road bike down to either a Marin San Marino or a Trek 2200. My head says Trek 2200 but my heart says Marin San Marino. Which bike should I get???

I dont know anything about the Marin San Marino, but i personaly do like the Trek 2200, this thread may help.

Go with the Marin San Marino hands down. Much better materials and construction.

I pick up my new San Marino from the LBS tommorrow! The one he had in stock was a perfect fit, it's like the bike was custom made for me. I can't wait to hit the road on this bike, it is sweet. Thanks for the help in deciding.

All else being equal, the deciding factor is usually 'curb appeal'.

Seriously. If it comes to a coin toss or eenie-meenie-miney-mo, just go with one! You've done all the research. Time to pull the trigger.

So what if you buy the wrong one? Was your second choice THAT different that you'd really notice?

No offense, but I think Roadies in general vascillate far too much on bike purchases. If you read some of the threads here having to do with bike decisions, they're usually splitting hairs.

Like picking a vacation destination: if you're wrong, you'll still have fun. And you'll go somewhere else next year.

Buy it from the LBS that spent time with you while you vascillated.

I purchased a 'new' 2003 Marin San Marino last month through Ebay from a shop in California. It was size small.

I wanted a bike with a Campy triple so my choices were between the Marin and a Bianchi Veloce. The Marin was a little more, but it had the carbon rear triangle.

Having recieved and inspected the bike, I have some minor complaints:

The fork spacing is off a little bit (wide). This seems to be common to Taiwan-built frames.

It's hard to get the rear wheel out as the tire strikes the chainstay (mono-stay).

Other than that, nice bike.

I have a Marin Verona Road bike and have been very happy with it.
