30" is very good...the record isn't much higher than that. Iwould say beyond normal but way to disguise bragging in an innocent question ;)

Why do they call it a ‘Bunny Hop?’ When bunnies or rabbits hop they lift their front feet first springing off their back feet to land on their front feet again; they don’t take off vertically.

Maybe it would be more accurate to call it a ‘Springbok Hop.’ Or am I just splitting hares?

When I bunny hop, my front wheel comes up first, but I level out and land with both wheels at the same time

yeah....cant tell if your being sarcastic.....but he MEANS bunnyhop. Front wheel comes up first, then back. and 30'' isnt bs. I can hop just under 3 feet. like 3 '' below picnic table hight:S

Me; sarcastic? Never. I was trying to be humorous. I don’t always put smiley faces in, because to me it’s like laughing at your own jokes. I just put it out there and if it flies over the tree tops; oh well.

Here’s an observation; a comment. (Not necessarily funny.)
Ever since the introduction of the MTB in the 1980s mountain bike magazines feature pictures of guys doing bunny hops where the photographer lies on his back and photographs the airborne rider from below; giving the impression the rider is about six feet off the ground.

From this angle all you see is the guy’s crotch, and quite honestly when I’m in a store scanning the magazine rack I am nauseated every time I see yet another crotch shot. I’m appealing to all photographers out there; it’s been twenty years of crotch shots, and it’s time to get creative and try a different angle, or a least get the model to keep his legs together.

I've read those magazines for years, and not once have I noticed that phenomenon. Maybe you just have a crotch fixation.

Maybe I do have a crotch fixation; it's probably caused by twenty years of looking at MTB crotch shots.

how in the world do u bunny hop that high.

Combination technique and power. To watch someone do a high bunny hop is impressive. Trials riders are the most fun to watch because of how explosive the move is. 30" bunnyhop is not unreasonable, I can't do it...but I do know a lot of people that can.

Ouch! ;) I hope you worked that out by measurement, not by experiment.

I've been in the BMX scene too, and it seems to me that bunny hopping the BMXs is heaps easier. Hopping in the 2-3 feet range was pretty normal even for novices, yet I now have trouble getting my MTB over ill-placed 1 1/2 ft logs and similar. I guess plush full suspension is a factor, but is there more to it than that? Or have I just gotten soft?

Thank goodness for the increased popularity of baggy shorts in the latter years, eh? :)

Close as in I think it is around 45 or 46 inches. Not close as in "wow a couple of more inches and you have the record"

There used to be a list but I cant find it online anymore.
