Road Bike Racing - UCI Road Race classification

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have printed out, and am poring over, the UCI regs. They make good bedtime reading. ;)
But if someone could explain to me briefly the meaning of the classification scheme for road races (1.1, 1.2, 2.3, etc.), I would greatly appreciate it. I suppose I will find it in the regs, but as with most regs, it is like reading a law book.
Thanks...Gary
It has been some years since I have been in any UCI events or even know any new rules.
However race catergories is nothing new.
Cat 1.x are stage races. 1.1 are the best while 1.3 are the lesser.
Cat 2.x are single day events. 2.1 being a top single day event.
UCI points are awarded depending on the category event.
Who sets these categories? UCI. Mainly depending on the award prices and route.
P.S. I hope I didn't get the 2 numbers mixed. It has been a while.

Yes, you did :). 1.x are one-day races and 2.x are stage races. World Cup races are above 1.1. The Giro, TdF and Vuelta are 2.GT (Grand Tour) and some other (Paris-Nice, Tour de Suisse) are 2.HC (Hors Category).

Corect. After posting I saw I got it backwards. Either way that is the answer.
