Mountain Biking - best woman mtb bike for 150

what is up,
this is my first time on, just registered. i am looking for the best mountain bike(for light trails no jumps, easy riding) that $125-$175 will buy. I just got a trek 6700, but i'm broke and trying to get my wife into riding. appreciate it. spencer

Dumb question but...
Why does everyone want a mountain bike when they first start riding? I had one for a few months in the mid-90s but gave it away because I couldn't get comfortable on it. I now have two road bikes. Very comfortable!

Used is your only option. if you try to buy new you will get nothing more than a walmart quality bike.

By the way, if you plan to get her a bike for 150, don't let her see the receipt on yours, or you will be riding alone for sure!!!

by the way, did she ask for the bike? if so do you have a friend you can borrow from for a few rides? The reason i ask is because i did the same thing once. I asked my wife if she wanted a bike to ride, and she of course said yes. got her a decent giant for like 400 bucks. she rode it twice. this was 6 years ago. the bike hangs in my garage with about 30 miles on it. Not suggesting this would happen with all wives!! Just make sure you get a bike because she wants it, and AFTER she gets to ride a "free" bike a few times to see if she even likes it!!!

I have often wondered this. Maybe availability, cost etc. In the cheap range the only bikes 'visibly' available are mtb in design. I know personally roadie bikes seem too much money for just a junker...

Roadies are okay, but for some reason I find getting air and steep downhills are way more fun then flat roads. ::Off Topic::Going on my third DH day trip in the last month. It's the funnest thing ever. DH/FR is deffinatly my thing ::/Off Topic::

Well, three things need to be known.

1)How often is she going to be using the bike?

2)What kind of trails do you picture going on?

3)Would you consider looking around for a used bike?
