I'm usually ok with hunting... but is it possible to humanely kill a moose with an arrow like that?

I'm not so sure about that. He had a straight shot into the chest from 6 feet away. I'm sure the moose died pretty soon thereafter. He was damn lucky that thing didn't kill him though. As for being humane I guess that one's up for debate. The indians did it forever... Shot placement is everything...be it a bullet or an arrow.

I don't know. Looks to me like the arrow hit the moose in the head. The moose ducked his head the second he let go the arrow,

You better know what you are doing, hunting moose. It also helps to have a buddy close by with a revolver in case things go sour.

I have know a couple people that have killed a moose with a bow and arrow. Including the local archery supply store owner. He had the whole thing stuffed and placed in his store. The thing was huge!

They look like a pair of ignorant ******bags and deserve the scare they got. Some arrow tips do a lot of damage and are effective weapons. I don't think it survived long before bleeding out. A good shot would have dropped it where it stood. Especially from that range.

That seems like yet another good reason to use a tree stand.

I tried stalking a Bull Moose so I could shoot him with my Nikon. I discovered Moose are very private and don't want their picture taken.

I thought the shot was from the front at a sharp angle into the ribs, which would be less than perfect. And when your on the ground with a grumpy moose, you better be perfect. They are big animals.
I worked with a guy that hunted elk with a bow, he got one at 40 yards.

I've shot a whitetail straight on like that with a 30-30 and it folded like a wallet...never took another step. I've also shot deer behind the blade and into the lung and what by definition was a perfect shot, found me tracking it half the night. From hunting for over 3 decades with friends and family, it's been my experience that it's the rare deer that drops in its tracks. The odds are you'll have to track it at least 20 yards or so even with good shot placement.

If I didn't know moose lived in the north, I would bet the whole thing was preceded by the guy saying;
"Hey ya'll, hold my beer and watch this!"

I've almost hit a moose riding on back roads one day. Freaked me OUT. I was on a recumbent and would have gone right under him if I didn't hit the breaks. Damn thing stepped right out of the woods.

I was stalking moose in NH with a camera just after sunrise one morning. I was following tracks in the forest when along the same trail comes a 3 legged wolf. I didn't actually see that it was missing the 4th leg but it turned, looked right at mee, then walked off limping. and the limp was severe enough that it appeared to be missing that one hind limb or at least missing a foot. I was so scared and I couldn't believe it how stupid I was and how unprotected I was. the wife and kids were back and the campsite sleeping and they had absolutely no idea where I was. my Dad immediately shipped me some bear spray. oh yeah, like I could say - hold still please attacking wolf (or anything else for that matter) let me get out my bear spray ... hahaha LOL

the best footage I got that day was video of a moose running away as I approached the area in my car.

Looked to me like a front quarter shot; maybe even deflected by the moose's shoulder. I don't think it was a kill shot.

A revolver will do little against an animal that big that is charging you. Sure, it may die eventually... but that'll be no solace to you since you'll be dead before it will!

My brother-in-law took a huge bull elk this year with an arrow. Double lung shot at ~40 yards. It only walked a couple hundred yards before dropping.

that'll work. I actually want to fill an aluminum arrow with some f4 flash powder and drill a field tip so its hollow, then put a black powder primer cap on it and voila, exploding arrow. Someday I'll find a semi safe place to do this.
