Today has been a good day so far! After weeks of either freezing weather (by New Orleans standards), or rain, and fighting a cold that wouldn't let go, I finally got out to ride. Today the temp was 60 degrees and it was cloudy and a bit windy. Three things happened that made me smile...

I rode 32.6 miles, my longest ride ever. I did it along the Mississippi river levee. The roughly 15 miles out was pretty much against the wind. I prayed I would turn around before the wind did! Coming back was much faster. Overall my avg speed was 12.5.

I finally got my new Brooks saddle dialed in!! I had to stop a couple times in the first 5 miles or so to adjust it but then I seemed to hit the spot and I was off!

This was my first ride with my new Shimano spd pedals and I didn't fall! I had my 'obligatory' falls last year with my Look pedals and I think the combination of hitting the ground and trying to get around in those darn road shoes resulted in my putting my platform pedals back on until about a month or so ago. I had been practicing some on the trainer but this was my first real world trial. I really like them!

Now, if the Saints and beat the Vikings, my day will be complete. My daddy used to take me to the games with him back in the late '60's, early '70's when they started out. If they actually do this, I will think of my dad and smile...then I'll go crazy like the rest of the city! :thumb:

Thanks. You have no idea how much reading this forum has helped keep me in the game!

You do realize you give as much as you take, don't you? I for one would love to ride the levee, thanks to reading your reports. Then afterward enjoy dinner at "Brennan's" in the Quarter. :-)

I take that back. Even if I could afford it, the food might kill me.

Eggs Hussarde...A Brennan's Original!
One of the dishes that put "Breakfast at Brennan's" on the map. Poached eggs atop Holland rusks, Canadian bacon and Marchand de Vin sauce. Topped with Hollandaise sauce.

I know what you mean! I can't afford Brennan's except on very special occasions. Fortunately, for every 'world famous' dining spot there are half a dozen local establishments that have great food at more manageable prices! Bad restaurants don't last very long in this city.

One of the things I'm trying to do to manage calories is eat in my own personal dining room!:p

Good luck with that on Super Bowl Sunday...:roflmao2:

I think your town is gonna' have fun that day, as you should. Looking forward to a good game.

It was crazy all Sunday night after the Vikings game! The French Quarter looked like it was Mardi Gras day! I may have to manage a really long ride on Saturday so that I can properly celebrate Superbowl Sunday completely without guilt!! :D
