Fifty Plus (50+) - I've only bike-commuted once this year but.....

.....as usual I kept my eye out for reusable discards.

My daughter whose going to school in Milwaukee has a job lined up in Chicago for after graduation in June of 2011. As a person who believes in advance planning she's asked me to keep an eye open for usable furniture to start out with. She knows that her mother and I aren't bashful about pulling over and retrieving goodies from the curb.

I hit the "Mother load" the other night. Someone must have just cleaned out their garage. It was necessary to come back with the pickup truck for this stuff as it was not going to fit on my bike. I've posted two pictures below, the first shows 'Stuff' for my daughter (not too bad for free sart-up furniture), and the second was my part of the Haul. Thanks Mister, whoever you are....

The pile we pulled this stuff out of was not on my normal "Driving route", but on my "bike route". Had I not taken my bike to work that day,.....well, there would be more space in my house right now!

Now I have to start concentrating on my Model Railroad project before Spring arrives. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, as you can see below. Toot, toot.

On the wheels- check the rims out for wear before putting too much effort into salvaging them. Pump the tyres up to 80psi and see if the braking area take a warp to them. Little bit of a curve not too bad but if they take a definirte aec- Just csave the hubs- if they are good enough.

I am surprised that you are letting the chest of drawers go- even to a wanted home. Looks big enough to store the train set in- instead of the basement.

With regard to the spaciousness of the area surrounding the railroad, I'll quote one with whom I am well acquainted, "It's so crowded, you couldn't cuss a cat without gettin' fur in your mouth." Yes, get with it and get the railroad running, and post the pics.

Wish I could do the same. We've recently had a few folks receive citations for doing this. Something in our township about once it's put on the curb it belongs to the township and you can't take it. Personally, I think that's a pretty heavy-handed, restrictive approach and flies in the face of recycling.

We have a similiar law here but it only applies to the contents of the "recycle bins"; Plastic, Glass, Cans, Paper & Cardboard....the bulk items are up for grabs. Many of our area unemployed, and there are a lot since most of our factories are down, rely on collecting and selling scrap steel and aluminum for supplimentary income.
