Howzit Guys,

I've just bought a new black rimed wheel for my bike, as my odd silver buckled one was a mess really, but this new wheel is quick release, is it possible to change it from quick-realese to just the standered bolt on one?

If so, how do i do it, and what part(s) do i buy?

Thanks! :)

Thanks! :)Why would you want to do that? You will need an axel, cones, locknuts and any spacers that may be required. The axels are slightly different in diameter,so the stuff on one won't work with the other.

I don't like quick _ realese stuff that much.

Thanks anyway, looks like i'll have to live with it. :)

Yes, just replace skewer if you're concerned with security. You can get one that can be opened with wrench or more expensive one that requires a key. Another cheap fix is to hose clamp the qr lever to the seat stay. It's harder to steal if you make the lever and stay as far from parallel as possible before clamping (otherwise the clamp only needs to be opened slightly, then slid off).

Thanks qmsdc15, very helpfull there bud.

Will look into it more, just i don't mind the quick-realse, just the actual bolt looks horrible against the black rim, ah there's a thought, if i don't end up changing it, i will just buy a black bolt. :)

Forget it, a guy could wrench the bolts off in a sec, lock your rear to the frame.
A front wheel is cheap, rear very expensive. I have a quick on the rear and front, my rear is off 5 times a week prob, the release is super.
Locked? the rear is chained to the frame and to fixed station. Never had a prob with hollow axles bending and I jump my bike.

I would not bother, If I did, I'd pay a Mech to do it.

I dont like the silver bot that i got with the wheel, so i will get a black one, and leave it. :)

My bolted on wheels or hose-clamped qr never got stolen. 17yrs DC messenger. I use a mini lock which is harder to break than one big enough to secure rear wheel. Black will look good with that rim. Bolt-on skewers are lighter and more secure (to deter casual theif) and available in black! at nashbar (use link above) or elsewhere. I use control tech Ti bolt-ons.

Damn, those are the ones I'm talking about that can be opened with a wrench. I use similar by control tech which are black! Not sure if control tech still makes the Ti ones, nashbar has black steel ones.

Not sure if they ship to UK. Don't know why not. The link is at the very top of this page, if you link thru this site, bikeforums will get a referral bonus. No extra cost to you.

Kryptonite skewers. Extremely hard for smoeone to defeat, unless you install it wrong (ie: not trimming the skewer as per instructions, use a dremel w/ diamond cutting wheel to do this, it leaves the cut nicely polished if you do the cut at about 20k rpm).

Catatonic, those are the locking skewers I mentioned. Probably best choice for me. But I'm cheap and bolted or clamped wheels never rolled away when I wasn't looking. If I had Gucci wheels I would spring for the Kryptos.
