"Clearly it will have a hat organization system, native support for AmigaOS applications, and a lemon zester."

More likely it only be a hat organization system. And only support red baseball caps. But it will be the best damn hat organization system ever invented and you'll buy lots of red baseball caps just so you can use it.

Maybe they'll also announce a fix for the iTunes 9 release that rendered (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2151907&start=0&tstart=0) countless iPod Classics -- new and old -- useless for months now. Hell, even an acknowledgment of the issue would be awesome.

I miss the IBM model M and the Omnikey equivalents. I used to throw those out as I got new computers without that type of keyboard port. If I had realized at the time what crap newer keyboards would become I would have held on to those.

For some perspective, the last time Apple talked that big ("COUNT THE DAYS. COUNT THE MINUTES. COUNT ON BEING BLOWN AWAY."), Jobs unveiled the G4 "Luxo" iMac to cries of "Oh, that's nice."

I'm sure the iPhoneXL will be a perfectly fine product that has features of no interest to me but will make Apple several billion dollars. But at this point, I just want the damn thing out already, to cull the endless, baseless speculation and feature guesses.

"Clearly it will have a hat organization system, native support for AmigaOS applications, and a lemon zester."

The iPhone went from not existing to a $10 billion + annual revenue generator within 2.5 years.

Know a lot of other business enterprises that have pulled that off with a new product do you?

The one in the Arden mall here is usually insanely full from the first minute it opens every day. The mall could be littered with stinky dead corpses and people would crawl over them to get to the Apple Store even if the rest of the mall was permanently closed.

Probably on eBay.

They're still made, just not by IBM or Lexmark. Unicomp (http://pckeyboards.stores.yahoo.net/keyboards.html) has the patent now. They'll even sell you one with Windows keys and a USB connection if you want.

I've never used a post-Lexmark model, so I don't know what the quality's like.

My god I hated that store. So small, cramped, and full, and it's never pleasant having to go into Arden Fair.

The only reason we went in there was to replace my GF's nano that had gone to crap before it was a year old. They gave her a new one no questions asked. But yeah, Arden Fair and that entire area just sucks. Every since they closed the mall down in South Sac, all the bangers and hoodlums have moved up to Arden Fair to hang out.

And thanks for the link.

Before the Mac was introduced in 1984, there were personal computers. PC's with text based OS interfaces that sucked. Within a few years, all consumer computers had graphical user interfaces. In other words, Apple's product changed the game, everybody now wanted a PC.

Before the iPod was introduced in 2001, there were MP3 players. The iPod made them user friendly, and within a few years we all had iPods. Apple's product changed the game, everybody now wanted a digital music player.

Before the iPhone was introduced in 2007, there were 'smart phones'. But they weren't so smart. They certainly didn't behave like micro laptops in your pocket. Apple's product changed the game, everybody now wants a real smart phone (iPhone, Android, etc.).

Apple's products don't always dominate (like the iPod) but they often CHANGE THE GAME.

While I don't have a huge interest in tablet computing myself, the tablet computer market feels very similar to the early MP3 player market, so Apple has a huge opportunity to step in and call the shots if they play their cards right.

I don't think this gizmo will be a tablet computer as much as a Super Kindle. I also think that within 5 years lots of people who didn't ever dream they'd want or need such a device will be using one every day. This may signal the real beginning of the end of print publishing.

When you think back to 1995, nobody would have really dreamed Kodak would be out of the film business within 10-12 years, or in 2001 that CD's would be essentially going the way of 8 track tapes within a decade. Whoever gets this media player/tablet computer thing right (and maybe it won't be Apple) will accelerate the same trend in print.

I think this is going to be an amazing device. I just want to know if the screen will be able to be calibrated (for accuracy in sharing my photos) and if there is an ability to expand the memory. Looks like neither, but I'm still terribly intrigued.
