The wife and I got some stuff from Kohl's that we wanted to return. We had gift receipts for everything and showed up on January 1st to return it.
For whatever reason, we had to get a "corporate refund," which meant they gave us receipts and told us to wait 10 days for a refund in the mail. It sounded to me like they were hoping we'd just forget about the whole thing so they could keep the money and the returned clothes.
Sure enough, it's now January 26th and we didn't get anything in the mail. Now I'm on hold for an estimated 18 minutes...

They "just processed" the refund and it will mail on Friday.
Think they would have ever processed it if I hadn't called? I doubt it.

I've never heard of that refund policy there. I've had to bring various things back, and it was always a simple exchange (in the case of a wrong size) or a refund direct to the credit card, or to a gift card.
I prefer to not shop at Kohls. The store in our area is typically poorly staffed, clothes are not well organized, folded, displayed, etc. And I too have experienced the hassle with returns. I did not have a receipt, and the item was a gift and I could only exchange it for a same priced item or get a refund for the lowest price they had sold the item for. I got something like $12 for a pair of shorts marked $40. Nice store to deal with, if you like gettting the run around.

+1. Never had a problem at any of the stores around here regarding returns. I could do without the constant pitch for a Kohls card at the checkout though.

Directly after the holiday season? I could see the reason for this... but only kinda. Keeps lower amounts of money on hand. It's easier than "We can't immediate refund cash buyers, but we can credit"
But yes, it is a pain. Also, they may have a "normal sized staff" working on all the holiday return/refund quantities. I'm sure they wouldn't have minded you getting the store credit option.
jsharr - I thought that was standard procedure at any store? I know it is at others... just can't think of any specific ones other than walmart, Target, or Hobby Lobby. It's so you don't buy something on clearance, then return it and say you have no receipt in order to get the full original price.

I'm not sure if it's only through the store credit that you get some of their sale discounts. My fiancee has a Kohl's card and we get a monthly discount coupon for something like 30%, which you can combine with other sale prices. At the beginning of last summer I bought 5 pairs of shorts, 2 pairs of swim trunks, 3 or 4 polo-ish shirts for work and a bunch of t-shirts for under $150.

I detest Kohl's.
The rest of my family loves it there.

My wife lives at Kohl's. She has never had a problem with anything (returns, stock, store, help, etc) and she is quick to complain, so if she ain't complainin', then it can't be that bad.

I've had good experiences with Kohls on both purchases and returns. I will say that unless you're going for something on sale it is often overpriced. On the other hand, with as often as the coupons come by, that isn't really an issue. I may be biased as I don't actually have to deal with their ads, I just get the useful to me stuff as my mother decides to filter out and send my way.

Sounds familiar. I give all the sales papers to my fiancee and she sorts through them all. I don't need to look at them, she just asks me "We got sales stuff at Kohl's. Do you need clothes?" and if I say no, then the paper goes in the recycle bin.

The only place worse than Kohls is Fry's Electronics, if there is a mail in rebate you will never get your money from them.. I have spent the time to fill out the forms and copy the receipts and send them in a never once have I ever received a rebate back..

I know which Kohls you're talking about. I've been in there once, right after I got married, to exchange a wedding present w/o a gift receipt. The only thing they had that was anything close to something we needed/wanted, was underwear. So I exchanged some tacky dish towels from my cousin for boxer briefs for me. We just hated their lack of selection, and haven't returned.
I just found the Kohls Men's Graphic T-Shirts 2 with coupon code, and shipping is free. Good discount, i wonder get two of them and wear it very time while i ride out, lol!
