Northern California - Sunday Fat and slow Peninsula ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So I got fat and slow, time to start riding! Join me this Sunday for a jolly ride through the Peninsula hills. The fun will include Kings Mountain, a scenic Skyline ride, a brisk descent down 84, WOLH, and of course the "damn cars slowing me down" descent down 84 to Woodside. I was thinking of starting at 7:30 at the plaza on the corner of Homestead and Foothill. They have peets coffee there!

Let me know if you want to do it, so I can set my alarm clock to actually wake up that early on the weekend. lol

Hmmm, that sounds like it might be just what I need. Might be doing Diablo, but if not, I'll be there...

I created a route: route (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=W+Homestead+Rd&daddr=Manzanita+Way+to:Kings+Mountain+Rd+to:CA-84+W%2FLa+Honda+Rd+to:Tripp+Rd+to:Mountain+Home+Rd+to:37.337408,-122.066517&hl=en&geocode=FbK5OQIdyGm5-A%3BFRPuOgIdVLG2-A%3BFRIkOwId8ty1-A%3BFcUwOgIdTG62-A%3BFfIWOwId6jm2-A%3BFSrpOgIdupu2-A%3B&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=6&sz=14&via=1,2,3,4,5&dirflg=h&sll=37.329219,-122.054329&sspn=0.04327,0.090895&ie=UTF8&z=14)

It looks like it's 55 miles. I usually do it in under 4 hours. I was thinking of leaving from start location around 7:30, but I think 8 would be better. As for lunch, eh we should be back before lunch. There are water stops available right before the start of Kings, then at the top before 84 descents. For food, I just bring bananas with me and munch on them as I ride. I don't really like stopping because then my legs feel like crap.

that sounds good.

That's for fat and slow people? I'd hate to see what you consider a good ride for a fit and fast rider! :)

Just a note: it looks like you start in the Chain Reaction parking lot. I would urge you to consider starting from the Lucky's parking lot instead, just a quarter mile or so down the road. That plaza gets stupid crowded and the landlords think that Chain Reaction is hogging the lot, which is definitely not the case. As a result Chain Reaction is getting a lot of flak and is looking to cyclists to park elsewhere so that people there on business at Trader Joe's, Rite-aid, etc can park there.

right there with you on the fat and slow pace, give me a break. thats probably how fast i wouldve done it ten years ago. (when i was 40). i like the route though. i enjoy riding on that side of the bay as opposed to over here in the desert.

As the man said it doesn't get any easier, you just go faster. :) I was thinking of meeting by peets at that plaza. Honestly so far it's just me and ahmose, and maybe fastev. I don't think it will be that big of a problem. It's not like it's an Alto Velo ride or something. :) Besides I will be riding there, so won't even be taking a precious parking spot. lol

I'm probably going to be riding there as well, so no parking spot for me either.
I think i'll be helping UD do hill repeats so he doesn't get bored waiting for me at the top of the climb :)

Eh, I was just noting it in case you got a good turnout. Chain Reaction is one of my favorite stores and I hate to see em get crap for something that isn't their fault and could so easily be remedied. :)
