So I got a big head.. high forehead..and a lot of road helmets I try on (espcially ones that are road/mountain) just stick up and out and i feel like a weirdo.
Any suggestion of helmets that sit low and don't break the bank? < $100
thanks

I have the same problem. I wanted a Colnago helmet (made by limar) but it just sits on top of my head (thats the large size)

I have a giro that fits decently, but its old and clunky and I tried a Louis Garneau on at the store the other day that was a good size, decent road helmet but didn't have a colour that matched my bike :)

My husband has a really large head and has found the Giro line to work well for him.

I have a big head. Limar 107 in XL fits me quite nicely

Any particular model from the Giro line?

The Giro Atlas II is the biggest in the line. Its a MTB helmet, but with the visor removed, who can really tell. Best part, ~$40

i dont have a high forehead, but jsut a very large head...most non-fitted caps dont fit me very well (the dreaded strap bend starts to happen), but i found the loius garneau oro t-bone fits fine.

Limar XL eh? I think I tried on a large. It went on my head so to speak but it was to short. Like the distance between the top of my ear and the bottom of the helmet was about 2". Heh.

Too bad because I want a matching Colnago helmet for my bike :) (i'm one of those geeks that likes having matching everything for his bike...couldn't do the socks though they come up to high lol)

LG and Giro seem to be the way to go for the fat heads. I wear a L/XL Nike flex fit hat and some are a little too tight if my hair is long, some fit ok with it a little longer (longer = short, but not cropped hehe)

So I know thats a lousy gauge but...I don't have the Giro model I bought before but I think the last they use is probably similar in alot of there helmets. Mine is a MTN bike helmet for sure though.

With a long narrow head (damn those forceps!) I found the Giro Atmos fits nicely. The Roc loc system really keeps it secure and that's on models lower down the range also.

p.s. no, I have not worked on the film 'Alien'!

You are probably right...the XL fits great for me, but I don't have forehead extensions...lol

Found the Bell Furio works well for me, compared to most the population, they all look like they're balanced on top my head though.

I was considering the Bell Furio so far. I like the prices I see online and suchh.. maybe I can try to find one here locally.
I think the biggest 2 things for me with helmets in the past were chin straps not long enough and 2, the helmet doesn't stick so high up and big that it makes me look i just got off the "short-bus"

Thanks for the tips!

Look for a Bell Kinghead. They're BIG! I used to have a few customers who played for the Rams. They were BIG too! Kingheads were the only helmets I could find that fit them.

I use the Giro Atlas II and it fits very well, sitting down onto my head. I have a lot of problems finding the right size helmet and even though I use it on the road, it works fine (it's made for Mt biking).

Also, there are great deals on the Giro Pneumo, which was like $140 earlier in the season. I wish I would have just put the $35 I spent on the Atlas towards it because it is a very nice road helmet, light with lots of vents. Also sits down well.

Also, for you guys with wide feet, Nashbar carries Lake shoes in wide widths for a good price and Shimano has two high end pairs out in wide widths....

I too have a large head. I have to wear XL motorcycle helmets, and even some of those (Arai) I can't even fit my head into.

It took me forever to find an affordable cycling helmet, but after a trip down to Performance Bike, I did in fact find one within my budget and that fits. I have a 24 1/4" head (dont' say it!) that is more round than it is oval. This usually means that helmets have one point right in the middle and upper part of my forehead that gets a lot of pressure.

I found that a large BellŪ Alchera fits perfectly:

and not bad at $42.49 (50% off right now). The Alchera is not super fancy, but it definitely does the job.
