Touring - Utah tour?

I want to ride a tour in Utah...anywhere from 5-10 days...around 1000-1300 dollars...any suggestions?

A friend & I did a very nice loop in SW Utah out of St. George. We flew to Las Vegas and took a shuttle from the airport to St. George. The shuttle took bikes, but I have no idea if it still exists. Anyway, our route passed through Enterprise, Cedar City, Panguitch, Bryce Canyon NP, Zion NP, and back to St. George. We did it in late May. It was hot in St. George, it snowed at Cedar Breaks, and was just right at Zion NP. The climb up to Cedar Breaks is significant, but I don't recall it being extremely difficult other than the snow squall we encountered on top (not unusual, apparently).

I've not ridden it by bike, only by motorcycle, but Hwy 12 and 89 in SW Utah east of the interstate has some of the most beautiful scenery in the US. Not to be missed! Can't comment on the road conditions for cycling, and the towns are few and far between (esp. on 12 through the spectacular Escalante Grand Staircase), but WOW, what sights! And for a complete change of pace, NE Utah (SLC to Wyoming) offers traditional Rockies terrain/views. I'd find a way to ride a few days in each part, arranging transport between them.

I'm riding through from the NE corner near Dinosaur, to the South-Central border at highway 50, around the 3rd week of June. Unsupported and camping. You're welcome to join.

When are you going? I'm planning a trip out there in June (probably). I'll be staying with my folks in Leeds (about 15 mi north of St George) and doing a number of day trips from there. Planning to ride up into Zion, do do the climb up Cedar canyon to Cedar Breaks, etc. Might also swing thru Moab while out there to do some riding in that area too.

I'm planning something similar, but in late March/early April. That's when I have my vacation. I'm wondering if I should take my touring bike and stay on roads, or my mountain bike and do ACA's Utah Cliffs route. Or will the weather still be so iffy at that time that I should just drive my truck to Zion and go riding during the day from there.

I was thinking of heading north out of St. George on 18, then east on 56, maybe via a smaller road to cut off the corner, then through Cedar City. I don't think I want to try Cedar Breaks in March/April, so I'd stay on 14 from Cedar City to Long Valley Junction, then head southwest to Zion. If conditions are right I might try the road between Navajo Lake and Highway 9 east of the park entrance.

My parents used to live in Springdale and Zion is one of my favorite spots, so I'm planning on spending a few days there hiking around.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
