I'd be all over these if I thought I would be able to have time in the next couple of years to learn how use them!
Might be useful to you guys.

I saw a report that Cino Cinelli had a set of the Campagnolo vertical drops on his desk. Now I do too.
Bicycle Classics (http://www.bicycleclassics.com/) also has NOS 531 tubesets, as well as complete frame kits.

bicycle classics includes an Italian bottom bracket. I don't think I'd go to the trouble of building a bike with one nowadays.

Actually, the description says "BSC". Where did you see that the BB was Italian?
So that actually is a Campy drop... Looks kinda rough for their stuff (tools, parts)...

I stand corrected, maybe I was thinking of another company
So that actually is a Campy drop... Looks kinda rough for their stuff (tools, parts)...Yes, they were not highly thought of for that reason. If Campagnolo had made a nice forged vertical drop back then it might not have taken so long for vertical drops to take over.

They did make a vertical dropout once upon a time
and if memory serves me correctly they were worse than the standard dropout
{It was 30 years ago that I saw them where I worked**

one of the ebay auctions listed above has a '70s era Campagnolo vertical drop. It was just a stamped flat piece of steel -- really crude. Like I said above, if they had made a forged version, people might have taken them seriously.

Silverbraze...are you Llewelyn from Australia?
The auction ended, the 531 tubeset went for $177, when the same thing is available from Bicycle Classics is $150. Glad I didn't get caught up in that one. The accompanying lugset in the other auction looks nice, though...Prugnat SL, if I'm not mistaken?

It's as nice as that old stamped and/or sand cast stuff gets...good for a "period correct" build/resto (or practice if that lugset is cheap enough), but not really worth the $ when you consider how much nicer the new stuff is.
That, and buying old parts does nothing to support our current suppliers.
