This coming May, I will be participating in the 2010 Tour du Rouge (http://www.tourdurouge.org), a six-day bicycle tour from Houston, TX. to New Orleans, LA. that raises funds for the Gulf Coast chapters of the American Red Cross that lie along the tour's route (Houston & Beaumont, TX, and Orange, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La). In addition to the physical commitment required to complete the ride, I have committed to raise at least of $2500 in donations to benefit these American Red Cross chapters.
I'm posting here today in hopes that some of you might help support me and the American Red Cross by donating to this worthy cause. I know that the month or so after Christmas is a tough time to ask someone to donate money. However, its even more tough for me to ask someone whose life has been disrupted by disaster to go without shelter or relief. And with the recent news that the American Red Cross has raised and committed over 100 million dollars in aid to Haiti to help them recover from their devastating earthquake, we need to help ensure that they are still well positioned to help the people here at home.
Domestically, the ARC help your neighbors, friends, and family survive the unimaginable - a fire, hurricane, or tornado, that destroys everything you own - by providing food, shelter and survival kits and other resources. These essential items assist with immediate needs but also jump-start recovery efforts which the ARC continues as people begin to rebuild their lives. Your donation to ARC's Tour du Rouge will provide much needed funds to the local communities along the Gulf Coast that have suffered many disasters over the last few years. And when they aren't working disasters or emergency situations they are continually helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. This is why your contribution is so vital. Unfortunately, disasters and emergencies seem to never cease. Fortunately, the ARC is here to get you and me through them. I want to raise as much as I can because I know it will make a difference. Won't you please join me in my efforts? Together you and I can help the victims of countless crises in your community and other communities along the Gulf Coast by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross.
Donations can be made via my donation page set up for the event (http://www.active.com/donate/tourdurouge/WDNeumann). The website is secure, fast and easy to use. At the website you will be able to choose an amount to donate and receive email confirmation of your donation (if you would like to make an offline donation, PM me, and I will get you a donation form and an offline receipt). Thank you so much for your support for this very worthy cause.
TL;DR: May 2010, Tour du Rouge, Houston to New Orleans, donations go to the American Red Cross chapters along the route. Please help if you can (http://www.active.com/donate/tourdurouge/WDNeumann).
