What caused him to go out of the race? I got the commentary on the dust, but never did see why he went out.

Those stripes are from his Giro Atmos helmet, I think it's from the sun...

Reason for me to not go the bald look...Cyclists' suntan lines on the hands, arms, face, thats cool...On the head, not so sure...If the bald look, I would be wearing a bandana...Plus, Sunscreen on the head?

The press is reporting that the heat got to him, as well as MANY other racers.

If it is dirt, but a bald person rides w/o a bandana, then the dirt must be hiding a suntan. What must a sunburn on the scalp feel like.?

you can't put sunscreen on top of your head...when you sweat, it runs into your eyes and you can't see.

I wear a Catlike helmet. There are three holes up front in the high forehead area. I usually end up wearing a ballcap for a few days after sunny rides... tough to explain the three red circles on my head. I'd probably do well to by one of those sweatbands.

the red circles are likely to be from where the foam pads are touching your head.

Nope. I can vouch for the fact that I've got three little sunburns. Even funnier when I start to peel.

Wear it under your helmet or just wear it. You'll never even know it's there.

Headsweats Coolmax Skullcap. Say goodbye to helmet head. :)

Sure, but how about the guy who is telling you your sunburn is caused by foam pads!? Too much!

I still have too much hair, but wear a cap under the helmet to keep the pads from getting funky, similar to why I wear socks. I soak it in cold water sometimes when it's too hot.

Oops....my bad. :(

I thought you said you wear a cap under your lid when riding...but you meant afterwards to hide the burn marks.

Ok Ed, sorry if I jumped on you. If a guy says he has a sunburn that matches the vents on his helmet and you say no its the pads, well you see how that seemed funny to me. Like you know from the opposite end of earth more about that guy's sunburn than he does! Thanks for the laugh, I see you just read the post too fast.:)

With time, you stop getting sunburned... just a vent-pattern tan. With my helmet, it was sort-of a BBQ grill thang. I also sweat like a pig, so the headsweats/dowraps serve double duty.

that's cool....always been a bad habit, reading too fast.

I've found the strap lines down the side of your cheeks stand out more than helmet head....and little stripes from your glasses too.

Think about it logically guys. If it is indeed a suntan, the rest of Levi's exposed body should have the same tone/tan/colouration. Does it? No. It is dirt. End of discussion.

But.... What if there is a suntan underneath the dirt? :rolleyes:
