Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I guess it was time for something to break

i have had my Sequoia for a little over a year and it has done very well. the stock rear wheel was a alex 28 spoke and did ok. i had to have it trued 3 or 4 times but other than that it has done well. i went to put new rear brake pads on and noticed cracks in the rim at every other spoke:(. i took it back to the lbs and they were quick to call Specialized for a warranty. they put on a loaner and off i went. 3 days later they had a new Mavic cxp 22 32 spoke wheel waiting for me. so i am back on the road once again:thumb:.

FWIW, that's not an uncommon problem with low-spoke count wheels. I'm sort of surprised they warranteed it. I had the same issue twice before i switched to 36-spokers, and the best I could get was a small discount on a replacement.

i had concerns with the spoke count when i purchased the bike. the lbs told me they would be fine and he would warranty them for 2 years. he held true to his words and i didnt even have to remind him of our conversation of the warranty when i bought it.

It's not a problem with low-spoke count wheels, it's a problem with over tensioned machine built wheels...

Good businesses like that need to be supported.

That's great to hear that they took care of you like that. It's been my expirience that Speciallized takes pretty good care of it's customers.

so far they have been a good lbs to deal with. i try to buy as much bike stuff through them that i can (even though i dont buy much). i refered 1 coworker to them for repairs and have another that is looking at buying a new bike from them.

btw, ride your replacement wheels for 100miles +/- then take them in and have them retensioned properly. They should last you a long time. 32spoke wheels will break just as easily and quickly as 18spoke wheels if they are not built properly.
