Bicycle Mechanics - Removing a chris king head set?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I want to take my head set off of one bike and install it on another. How does it come off? I have the fork out, it seems that it is just pressed in but I don't want to damage it by banging on it if this is not correct.

It is pressed in. Park makes a proper tool for removing the old cups. I think that I'd recommend using the proper tool for a King headset because they seem to fit a little more closely than some other brands. You might have trouble if you try to use an ordinary punch alternately from side to side.

Take it to your LBS. They have the right tools and adapters for CK headsets.

We use the Park tool, only takes a few seconds and I only charge a few bucks. If you need to pull the race off the fork and it is a susp. unit or carbon fork, you will need the remover that grabs the sides of the race and pulls it off with a screw turning against the top of the steerer. The angle, esp. on a susp. fork, is severe enough it will mark up the crown and probably bend the race.
