Leh–Manali Highway, India

Think I have been driven along this :) I have been up the himalayas and stayed in an old army barracks so it would make sense. Either way, yes it was pretty dodgy with equally dodgy driving!

Cool link. BTW...Stelvio is sometimes used in the Giro D'Italia.

This is SR 261 in Utah. Wish the photo were larger. I have driven it. Very scary.

The bolivian road of death looks nasty, the other photo from the Andes makes my fear of heights kick in. Great link.

I'll add Cuesta del Rahue to that list.

I wonder why it's never been paved; seems like the braking would be more sure on asphalt rather than the gravel. Plus, it would be great on a road bike if paved.

I drove down it (the Moki Dugway) a few years ago; challenging, but not all that terrifying. I'm glad I wasn't the semi-truck driver whom we met on his way up.

One wonders how they rated these roads, because there are a couple of dangerous roads in Canada that probably should make that list as well:

1) The Tuktoyaktuk Winter Road, running from Tuktoyaktuk, NT to Inuvik, NT it actually crosses part of the Arctic Ocean, in Winter the ice is so thick you can drive a fully loaded 53' Transport Truck across it, extremely dangerous in the spring when the ice starts to thin.

2) Toronto's Basket Weave, linking Highways 401, 404 and the Don Valley Parkway, this one is dangerous because it links the main East/West highway 401, with the only direct North/South access to the city downtown. Considering that Highway 401 at this point is the busiest section of freeway in the world, it should make the list.

I think they drove Italy's Stelvio Pass (#2) on an episode of Top Gear when they were looking for the world's best driving road. I really don't think I'd want to cycle that Bolivian one, but some of the others look like mega-fun.
