Alright I know this was done for a good cause but it's just...I have no words.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!!

Let me see if I can analyze.

1. The soporific pace and attempts at gushy sentimental style ruin the song
2. The soporific pace and attempts at gushy sentimental style totally miss the point of the song.
3. I'm convinced JT only ever listened to the refrain and just assumed there was something kumbaya-ish about it.

Oh my oh my, I'm scarred deeply.

And now I fear that the greatest song of the twentieth century will be subjected to being referenced by pretween twits. As in, "Oh..my..GOD! That Alleluia song is sooooo AWE-some. I totally want to lose my virginity to it someday."

i have not heard it but the idea is a little disapointing.

i once called it one of the greatest songs of the 20th century and got funny looks. im glad someone agrees with me...

edit:
on a side note i feel this is one of the best songs of my lifetime and it wont be subject to the same fate

Maybe a few will be tempted to listen to Cohen or Cale. But probably not.

Are you kidding? I bet exactly 0 preteens went looking for the song after
Jason dreadlocks sang it on American Idol.
Leonard Cohen? isn't he that OLD canadian guy who sounds like he had 1 (or 1 million and 1) too
many cigarettes and scotchs straight up? ( and he's a damned good writer too).

I heard the Help Haiti concert version and wanted to a) run screaming from the room, b)vomit, c) put ice picks
in my ears or d) all of the above. what I ended up doing was listening to Cale's version.
