Southern California - Cycling buddies in SoCal

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm heading over to So Cal from London in a couple of weeks to do some riding (trading our wet and cold weather for something a bit sunnier I hope!). I was supposed to be doing a training camp but it's been cancelled so I'm just going to try and get in some long steady miles around San Diego. I'm staying in Encinitas 14th - 21st Feb and hoping to finish the week with the Double Century ride starting in Irvine. However Sun - Friday I'm just going to be trying to find some good routes around the area of between 50 , 75 or 100 miles. Are there any organised rides, or are there any roadies who cycle regularly around there and fancy showing a visiting female rider some great routes? In terms of pace I'm not at racing pace at the moment but can do distance and hills ok.
:lol:There's no roadies in so cal :lol:

Our team recently held our yearly training camp in that area. All these ride should be close to you:
72 miles with around 3k of climbing with a nice ride up the coast and the San Luis Ray bike path.

65 miles also with a bit more climbing at around 4500 feet. We will be riding part of the Tour of California final stage. (Traffic can be somewhat of a problem on this ride)

65 miles low traffic. There is quite a bit of climbing at around 6k

This is by far the most scenic ride of the bunch. It's worth the extra drive to the start. Great Western loop 42 miles and around 3500 ft of climbing.

You can also join the CA Pools/DeWalt team on the Sunday ride. Our ride leader is also a transplant from England so you'll have someone who speaks your language;) CA Pools/DeWalt Sunday Ride Schedule (http://www.capoolsracing.org/documents/sunsched.pdf)

Thanks - that's really helpful. I may well come and join the Sunday ride.
I like the idea of being a 'transplant' from England. Of course we speak a variety of 'languages' here so we still may not understand each other ;-)
