Fifty Plus (50+) - My dad just joined Club Tombay!

Just got an email from my 86 (almost 87) year old father, who's been looking for a bike. He borrowed one from a neighbor to try out. In the email he says...

I borrowed my neighbors bike (mans), for a test ride.

Well first I could hardly get my leg over the bar. Well I finally did and off I went--zig-zag down the road. Well when I came back, I started to get off the bike and and bike and I hit the ground.

No I didn't hurt. Just my pride. It was 6 AM so I am glad no one saw me.

My neighbor said she wished she could have seen it and had taken a picture.

So that was my first bike experience in years. I am still looking for a girls bike 24 Inch. Maybe I can handle that.

So...does he qualify for Club Tombay?

I agree an honorary entrance is warranted.

Normally this wouldn't qualify as there were no clipless pedals involved (I assume). But under the circumstances I think it should count.

He got into the club without the expense of clipless pedals too.

An unwritten rule is there are no qualifications if you're 85 or older. Your Dad sounds like an incredible guy. I love his spunk and perpsective. The spill has not slowed him down and he's still looking for n.........Gotta love it.

I have faith in Analog Gee. Unlike the younger Digital, he probably wouldn't fake a Tombay incident...............my vote is for honorary membership...............and a be careful out there.

I agree he deserves to be admitted. Also, I'm am very happy to hear his pride was all that was hurt. Perhaps this will help sell him on a trike?

I vote no. It's just a bike accident. Any child could do it. ;)

Nope, the wheelchair that I pictured will have wobblely wheels with flat spots that doesn't roll/push true and with rusty fake chrome metal and the only carbon on it from dried up unknown substances.

Membership in Club Tombay is typically reserved for those of us who have fallen while our shoes are firmly attached to our clipless pedals.

As to the wheelchair, as they are all fixies, the owners must be hip. Correct?

He does not qualify for membership but does seem to be providing leadership.
