Southern California - help with moving to San Diego

I am planning on moving to San Diego from Pennsylvania in june or july of this year and I will be looking or a job at one of the local hospitals. I am sending out applications and resumes in the next few weeks. Also, my sister may be making the move with me. I was wondering if you guys had any reccomendations on hospitals to work at (if you are in the medical field), and also where would be good housing for myself and my sister being that i am 25 and she is 22. Our budget would probably be around 1500$ range to rent an appartment 2br, 2bath but wouldn't mind something less. I am an avid road biker and racer and will be looking to hook up with some local clubs. Any information or advice you guys can give me would be great. Thanks

If you google "San Diego Hospitals" you get all of the big names: Sharp, Scripps, Alvarado, UCSD, Kaiser, ... pretty much what Nachoman listed above.

If you are are in the nursing or pharmacy profession you will not have any trouble finding a job here. Where you live would depend on where your job is, I would think. Some neighborhoods are more affordable than others. We have a fairly decent public transportation system: trolleys, buses and trains with bike racks.

What is your training and/or credentials? Depending on this answer your job search could be easy or not. Scripps and Sharp are the 2 biggest systems in San Diego combined they have over 20,000 employees

Uptown San Diego is home to a vibrant cycling community. South Park has VeloCult, home of sdbikecommuter.com and Adams Avenue has Adams Avenue Bicycles and Cal Coast Bicycles within a mile of one another. These two areas are joined by 30th St. or "The Great Hipster Silk Road." Avoid looking for a place to live between University Ave and El Cajon Blvd. This area is characterized by urban blight and violent crime. Stay south of University or north of El Cajon Blvd., preferably north of Adams Ave. and you'll be better off. Also stay west of I-805, the concrete canyon that keeps most of the unwashed barbarian hordes to the east. Clairemont is also a good bet due to its central location which puts several major hospitals within easy commuting distance, but it too has its bad areas. Stay to the west and you should be okay there.

Morley Field in Balboa Park is home to one of three velodromes in SoCal. Public use hours are most dependable on Saturday mornings when there are no races in town. The track stewards are USA Cycling officials and have to work on race day Saturdays, but will show you the ropes at the track when they are there to open the place to the public.

San Diego is crisscrossed by canyons, so expect a fair amount of climbing on a commute of any distance.
