General Cycling Discussion - Best mountain pedal/cleat combo?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm looking into buying some new mountain pedals, specifically looking at the Time ATAC Aliums, Shimano PD-M540s, and Look Quartz pedals.
Which of these is the most reliable and has the most durable cleats? I've got crank bros candys and the CB cleats wear down pretty fast, IMO.

I personally like SPDs and use the A-530s and M-324s, but for street riding only. The owner of the LBS I use swears by the Time Atacs and from some things I have read they are supposed to be excellent for muddy off road use.
No idea of life for either cleat but I would expet the Shimanos to wear better as they are steel versus bronze for the Time cleats I believe.
You may want to look into Speedplay Frogs.

I bought a pair of Time ATACs 13 years ago. I just keep moving them from bike to bike. I think they're made of adamantium or something...anyways, if I ever have to buy another pair of pedals, I think I'll buy another set of whatever Time is selling, myself. Of course, by then pedals won't be necessary, because our hover bikes will move via thought alone.

I really like my Time ROC ATAC Carbons. Got em for $93 shipped from Wiggle.co.uk. Most US/Canada shops have them for over $120 US.
Just remember to use a one-time credit card number (like from Paypal) for making overseas purchases.
