Agree. On Friday at 14*F and 28 MPH crosswinds, with few reservations, I rode. On Saturday at 2* I wavered, and job/family duties won out so I took the car, "For duty and humanity, Nyuk, Nyuk." :lol:

It's -12 C and snowing and looks like a beautiful afternoon to get out and enjoy some fresh air.

made it to Fenway Park from Maynard. about 46 miles round trip with temps in the teens. the ride in went quickly but the ride home was epic. used a new-to-me bike that was just tuned up including a new BB. the bike checks out fine! :-)

Remember last summer, major thunderstorm forecasted with hail and everything. Decided to drive, got into a major traffic jam (rain hadn't started yet) and then looked for parking forever. Walking back from the parking spot - got completely drenched. Had I taken the bike - I would have made it before the rain/hail started.

Wow, you did that this weekend? I live about two blocks from Fenway Park and I know how far Maynard is from my summer time riding. Just this Saturday I went to the Souvenir Shop on Yawkey Way (first time ever after 26 years in Kenmore Square) to buy a christening gift.

My winter riding is totally confined to my 14 mile commute. :twitchy:

rumrunn6, you have clearly worked out your winter riding apparel. I'm still refining mine, though I did very well today. A small gap in coverage can cause a lot of localized pain, and it increases over time.

I only rode about 8 or 10 miles today, but it was a beautiful day. Immediately after returning home from my ride, I put the dogs in the car and took them to the dog park. We don't get to go often, so it was a special treat. People were complaining about the cold, but I was still wearing all my clothes, so I was fine.

noglider - yes - one time I had a gap between my turtle neck and my balaclava and the cold felt like it was drilling a hole in my neck. glad you got out.

I did about 20km in total on Friday night, it was a low of -20 overnight... thankfully I stopped once and had a few hot toddies to stave off the bitter cold. I really need to upgrade to bigger mittens. One of the guys that came out to critical mass showed up without gloves on :S

yeah I find for the very very cold days - loose fitting handwear is the way to go. I use a glove liner and then loose big fitting insulated winter gloves. if it will be in the high 20s F or low 30s then I can get by with just 1 pair of regular fitting ski gloves

Oh a tough guy huh, well hand/foot warmth varies a lot. According to one study, the Inuit hand has very good resistance to cold, no surprise there!

-20 and no mittens though ain't smart no matter who you are.

Depending how much your hands sweat you should try a vapour barrier glove at near 10f and below...
