Charity Events - Ride To Cure Diabetes- Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all,
I am a volunteer for the JDRF-Ride to Cure Diabetes for 2010. I am assisting in getting riders to participate in the rides that will be held as follows:
The Ride to Cure Diabetes is a unique and exciting way to raise money to cure diabetes. You and/or your team can choose from one of five ride locations and bike for your choice of distance (usually between 30 & 100+ miles) to raise money for JDRF. There are a few new locations that have been added this year! The five ride sites and dates are as follows:
Burlington, VT- July 15-18, 2010
LaCrosse, WI- August 12-15, 2010
Lake Tahoe, NV- September 10-13, 2010
Death Valley, CA- October 15-18, 2009
Tuscon, AZ- November 19-22, 2009
If interested in riding for JDRF, please contact me at: emolowitz@comcast.net. I will be assisting those rides for VT and WI. For the other rides, I can provide you contact names.
Thank you for helping JDRF find a cure!!

I wish the JDRF set their rides up more like the ADA. JDRF is my preferred organization (my son is type 1) but the required commit is just too much.

True. My wife (who has type I) thought about doing the La Crosse ride, but can't commit to that much fund-raising and the financial risk if she couldn't raise enough.

I have done 6 JDRF rides and they are awesome. I also do the Tour de Cure rides. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 37 years ago at age 12 so I know first hand what JDRF has done. Bottom line is if you want to fund a cure for type 1 diabetes support JDRF since their goal is a cure. ADA is more of a charity for type 2 diabetes. Not as much money goes toward an actual cure but more towards advocacy, and education. You can compare the two at Charity Navigator http://www.charitynavigator.org/ The difference between the 2 might surprise you. Out of a rating of 4 stars they give ADA 1 star and JDRF 4 stars.

This may be totally wrong but this year I plan on doing to the ADA ride and donating all I raise to the JDRF instead (save the minimum donation of course). We also do the JDRF walk.
