Cut my pre-ride checklist short today as I was more worried about the weather (bad) than the bike.

45 miles in a cool wind. I felt like it was my first ride. Legs burning, heart rate up, speed down. What was wrong? Must be me, it usually is.

At mile 42 I finally stopped to check (I have an aversion to stopping - perhaps an undiagnosed mental illness of sorts). Left pad of front brake in complete contact with the wheel.

I'm home now and my legs are toast. Man, what a jerk I am.

Wow, thats very skilled, was the pad stuck against the tire itself or were you accidently holding the brake and not knowing it?

No. I had reinstalled the front wheel incorrectly. It was leaning against the brake pad. (insert blushing smiley here)

How did you not noticed the sound? Do you ride with an Ipod?

Between the wind and my panting for air, I guess it was drowed out! :-)

Didn't that happen to Lance in the TDF last year? I don't remember the details but he apparently went a long way in one of the stages before he realized his brake was rubbing.

Can happen to the best of them.

Yikes! Started out two days ago like that. I was in a bit of a hurry and put the front wheel in a bit off center. Nothing like climbing for an hour when your actually going downhill eh? Or that "head wind" feeling but the trees are not moving...yuck.

Took the tandem out for a ride not to long ago, I thought my stoker was having a lazy day, till she asked me what that smell was... It was the drag brake I had left it on for the last 10 miles or so.
