I am trying to figure out how to rig a 2-piece, 10" surf-casting rod onto my mountain bike.
I figure I might be able to attach a 2-foot section of p.v.c. tubing to the stays,
but I'm not sure about how to do that. Anybody here ever try to carry a fishing rod?

Could you just lash the pvc unto the top of your rear rack using the all-purpose bungee cord. Wouldn't that work. The rack isn't 2 feet long but you could safely let some of dangle over the rear end.

what i did is tied the pole parallel to my top tube. put the reel end on one side of the head tube (but put a sock or cover over it so you don't scratch anything), and tie it tight. tie the other end to your seat tube after you wrap a towel or something around the rod.
this was on my hardrock sport, so if you have a horizontal top tube, it should be super easy.

That sounds maybe better than my idea. Thanks!

That's a decent idea, though I'd probably put the reel in a box in the backpack. (Just my personal preference). The top tube on my Raleigh M80 slopes down toward the rear tire, though, so any un-tied area of the rod would be at the front of the bike. I have no problem with that. I'll give it a shot and see if my leg rubs against the rod. Thanks for the help.
I asee fisher people around here just lash their poles to their backs like a rifle, or put a strap on them and csrry them like a messenger bag.
BTW, what are you all catching?

Spot and croaker with a few brim.:thumb:
Depending on where we are fishing we usually have to drive, but if using a bike you put the reel on the rear rack and point the rod forward and tie it to the top tube.

I'm going for bluefish, Roody. It's about a 7-mile ride to the coast for me. I had never thought of using a lanyard or a sling to hold the rod on my back. I'll have to think about that! :thumb:
