Only 300 are being made for 2005 at $7000 - not sure if entirely same as Lance's SSL. www.chainreaction.com has the details - expected delivery is November. They also report that limited number of Gold SSL will be available at $9995.

So let the discussion begin:

How long til the SSL & its component set is available as mass produced product or do you think it will always be a limited production road bike - (assume the 55 OCLV frame is more difficult to mass produce)

Who's the buyer for this and how would it compare to custom Serotta or Seven

SSL will never be mass produced product - why not? There must be something wrong with its ride characteristics to not be used for a day to day race bike.

Something with that sort of ride characteristics should never end up being a mass produced road bike. Trek's SSL is nothing unique, SCOTT CR1s and Giant TCR Advanced are right there with the weight savings but used by their respective teams for day to day riding.

And the SSL is basicall a Madone SL with different tubing... the molds are probably the same.
