Introductions - Historical bike rides

I'm another newbie, although this isn't my very first post. I like to exchange bicycling touring stories and information, but more than information about bicycles I like to hear about places and people that have been encountered on a bicycle.

On my blog I identify myself by saying, "The Spokesrider lives in southwest Michigan. He goes on bicycling expeditions to places where he can say, "Black Hawk Slept Here." But that phrase gets interpreted very broadly. Almost any excuse to ride to a place of settlement-era history will do."

Check out the Mississippi River Trail MRT I think, follows the mississippi and I remember goes by a number of state parks where civil war battles were fought, very low traffic and perfect for touring.

I am from Southwest Pennsylvania and own a bike tour company ( full disclosure). You should check out the C & O Canal and The Great Allegheny Passage http://www.atatrail.org 300+ miles of riding through history. George Washington slept here!! The riding around Gettysburg and Antietam, is off the hook. Check out various folks routes on map my ride. There are very active riding groups in that area. small plug for our tours.. we designed a 4 day inn to inn tour that spends time on the battlefields in Gettysburg and Antietam, we are the first tour company to have this type of permit with either National Park.

That's very interesting that you're from SW Pennsylvania, Ohiopyle. I'm working on a route for this coming season that would take me down to Fayette County, Ohio, and then over to the Seven Ranges of Ohio, then to SW Pennsylvania to see some Whiskey Rebellion sites, then up to Kittanning. My bicycle has never before set foot in the Seven Ranges region of Ohio or anywhere in Pennsylvania, so much of this will be new.

There is a Whiskey Rebellion site on the Great Allegheny Passage,, Colonel Crawfords Cabin, in Connellsville.
