Northern California - Any reputable Bay Area builder?

I need some minor work done on my steel bike and would like a recommendation for a reputable builder who's around the SF bay area, preferably around the south bay. These are the things I'll like done:


Two extra sets of bottle cage braze-ons
An M5 braze-on on the right fork blade for a Paul Comp "Gino" light mount
A simple rear brake hanger braze-on for the rear center-pull brake
Repainting the frame in a single color after the brazing work


Should be easy right? :p

I've heard good things about Ed Litton so I emailed him a while ago but did not hear back. I'm not in a hurry and am biased towards quality rather than price.

Any recommendations?

Bay Area? If you can get out to Palo Alto, check out Tim Sanner. He's a fantastic builder, and has great communications. He's also a very reasonable businessman. He has a powdercoater, not a painter.

Not quite Bay Area, but Kimo at Innerlight Cycles is in Davis and does fantastic work and is reasonably priced. He has a good painter too.

Ed Litton did some work for me but I went thru Chris at Robinson Wheelworks in San Leandro. Maybe go see Chris and see if he can hunt down Ed for you.

Chris is a great guy. I'll be down there after school trying to size up a new frame for my upcoming roadie project.

Mickelson in Alameda maybe too, don't know who actually does the building there though. Sanner is starting to build a pretty good rep.

I would have to suggest that you start with Chris Robinson, he will be able to point you in the right direction.

Bernie Mikkelsen himself... with the help of his wife. For frame add-ons, he's quick. I called about getting set of cantilever brake bosses added to my steel frame and he met me the same day and had them install in about an hour. www.mikkelsenframes.com

Just for reference, what did you end up paying for this? I've been thinking about getting my canti bosses replaced and moved to 700c positions on my frame.

IIRC, $20 per braze-on so $80 total (including the bosses). I'd suspect it would be less to move your existing bosses; but maybe not.
Give him a call and he'll probably quote you a price on the phone.
