Road Cycling - routes on Cape Cod?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'll be vacationing in Flamouth next week, and am considering taking the roadie with me. But am looking for any nice recommended areas/routes good for cycling- Rt. 28 up & down the Cape is something I'd like to stay away from if at all possible; being one of the only main routes on the Cape, it stays busy in summer months.
Maybe even a local bike shop where I could get some maps or ideas for routes?
Thanks.

By all means stay away from Rt 28. Not a fun ride. If you can get on the road early
enough, Route 6A is not all that bad. The surface is dubious in places, and there is
not all that much of a shoulder, but early AM it is not a bad ride. Check the Rubel
bike map for the Cape also. You can do some loops that are partly on 6A and then
partly on the back roads that run between/parallel to 6A and 28.
Hope you get good weather!

Ferry to Martha's Vineyard might be a nice side trip also. I think one leaves from Wood's Hole.

Hey, just found this forum. Nice place I think!
The CC Rail Trail is pretty nice and very scenic in places. If you hit it early in the day the crowds aren't bad and there are lots of places to stop for a drink or snack.
There is an excellent PDF here:

Actually, "in season", you can catch a ferry to the Vineyard right from Falmouth. $20 I believe. About 20 minutes. Never considered a Vineyard ride...hmm...

I stay in Eastham for a week every summer (last week in June usually). The rail trail is pretty nice. Not sure how the crowds would be this part of the season though. There is a MS150 that goes on when I'm in town and I rode with some of the folks this summer...kinda by accident actually. I usually ride some of the back roads around Eastham and Orleans then catch the rail trail to Wellfleet and turn right out to the parking lot. Great Ocean views and some decent hills.
Jeez I wish I was there right now!

Also, if you are in the Sandwich area, the canal road is a nice, usually cool and breezy 16 mile round trip, from the Sandwich marina to the beach on the other end.
