How long do your road bike gloves last? I seem to go through a fair number of road bike gloves. Mainly, I get big holes in them where I pull them to get them off of my hands after my hands swell a bit after riding. I use the largest size available in the glove I like. I have pretty big, thick hands.

I think gloves, tires, and a few other things are a total rip-off!!

I just payed 30 bucks for some gloves, and even then I hesitated.

I mean, I just bought a DT RR1.1 rim (rim only) for only $65 -- so I'm bloody well paying nearly half that for gloves!!! Does anyone think two pairs of gloves are equal to the value of a DT RR rim?!?!?!?
I bloody don't, that's for sure.

Bollocks :D

I thought I'd be clever with my last pair, and stitched some heavy duty seude onto the palms. Well, the gloves lasted about four years, with the suede totally unmarked, but the lycra on the back of the hands started perishing :)

Couldn't agree more.

The gloves that I can wear (my hands are big, and I can't wear gloves with cushioning or gel) are no longer produced.

They went on closeout sale a couple of years ago, and I bought 8 pair at about $6 bucks each. I still have five new pair which should last me a couple more years.

I bought some fancy-dancy brand name "winter" gloves. They leaked air like crazy, and are freezing. I use some gloves that I bought at Target for $6 for winter (like at 35-45F, not in the real cold - I don't ride then) and they are so much warmer than what I bought from the bike supply.

Thats your fault for paying that much for gloves. I use SG or Pereformance brands for under 20 bucks and they are fine.

Gloves suck!

They stink when you sweat in them.

I never have them on when I crash.

They are another item I don't want to spend money on (I would rather get new tires or socks

I never wear those stupid things anymore.

Why bother with socks?

When mine get worn out, I use them as garden gloves. They are great for when you have to use a rake or a hoe, the extra padding prevents blisters. I also wear them when I mow the grass.

When my good ones get sweaty from riding and I can smell them, (that is when they can stand up on their own and give you the finger :D ) I just put them in a lingerie bag and throw them in the washing machine. I air dry them, never ever, put them in the dryer. I think washing them helps them last longer. I read somewhere that it is the sweat that causes fabrics to wear out.

if you have two pair to rotate so they have time to dry out that will help. but they are too expensive.

I throw mine in the washer after every ride, along with my jersey and shorts etc. I had a pair of Bell's but the stitching in the fingers started to come undone. Besides which I saw another pair that I really liked, mostly because of the color (I'm such a girl). They are Nike, and they have more protection in the place between your thumb and first finger. I get really sore there after fifty or so miles. So I'm hoping these will help. I dropped about $30 for them, but I think they will be worth it. I can't ride without gloves, well I can, it's just not comfortable. Good idea with using them for gardening...I'll have to see how they work with the mower...I mean give them to my husband for when he mows the lawn!!

I just bought a pair from Performance for under $7.00. They are actually very nice gloves. Don't know why anyone would spend more than $15-20 on a pair.

I use Fox Mojave gloves. They are technically MTB cross country racing gloves. They seem to last me at least two years per pair.(100 miles a week)

I buy Performance gloves - usually when they are on sale. I got two pairs of their $19.99 gloves for $7.00 each. So far, I have 1500 miles on one pair. There is a slight amount of wear, but nothing untoward. I paid $30.00 for a pair of descente full fingered gloves at the start of the year for the cold weather. They ripped the first time I tried to take them off. I'll never pay more than $10 for gloves again.

gloves (and socks, arm and leg warmers, ugly jerseys, etc) are bike show, swap meet and race swag booth purchases.

some dealer will always have a table set up with "slightly irregular" pearl izumi or similar gloves for $10 a pair. hit up one show and stock up for the year.

a few months.. a little short of 1000 miles...

-they stink up
-they lose their padding
-they get stiff
-they develop holes

mostly i just cant stand them because they stink. i wont ride w/o gloves, tho.. i love the feel. i especially need them while MTB'ing cuz i subconsciously apply the jedi death grips on my handlebars :D

Hee-Hee, I have to admit, I only mowed the lawn twice this year. But when I did, it was in bike gloves. :D

I found a style and color of Specialized gloves I really like about 3 or 4 years ago and bought 4 pairs of gloves. The third pair is just about shot. I've had to wear my last pair a few times this month while the third (stinky) pair was in the wash.
I've been searching but no one has a glove similar to these.
I guess I'll be changing glove styles next year when the last pair is gone.

Sounds like my gloves that I can't get any more.

Specialized Cross gloves??

I have five new pair left.

I just retired a set with over 20,000 miles on them!! They were Trek Gels...I replaced them with a new set of Trek Gels. I only maintain one pair at a time.

Only wear gloves when racing.
They feel too unnatural and give you goofy "golf-tan" hands.

I have yet to really wear out my gloves. I sort of retire them after three or four years when they get too gunky and nasty looking. I keep those around as spares or for when I mow the lawn or use the trimmer (lotsa vibration there). I generally wear Specialized gloves (~$15/pair) and keep at least two pairs around so I can cycle them through the wash with my cycling clothes. My oldest pair from about 15 years ago has kind of "yellowed", the terry has "crusties" and the velcro closure is a bit weak but if need be, I could press them back into service.

I have 1 winter and 1 summer. Both are still in great shape after about 2K miles on each. The winters will certainly last another year.

Oh my, the other day I was wearing some shorter jean shorts in a store and I noticed that you could see my stripe on my legs. Then I noticed the "golf-tan" hands. I guess it is the harsh lighting that made me notice it. Although I have a ton of freckles so it is really hard to tell on my hands. I don't really care to lay out and tan, I have fair skin, but if all my freckles became one, I would have a *****in' tan. :D
