After recently building my first modern carbon bike (no ride report - snow and headset issues) my bike fund was still in good shape. I decided further speed improvements were due using funds under the spousal radar.... therefore.

I'm buying two 60GB SSD (solid state drive) 2.5" units to use in RAID 0 for my new computer build. The MB, memory, and CPU did hit the family budget (overtime pay!) The SSD have no moving parts and hit speeds several times that of the fastest hard drives while being quiet, cool running and green (0.2 watts approx). I'm looking at potential Windows 7 boot times of 20 seconds.

Who says restoring / building bikes isn't worth the effort?

I used to "Want" the latest in technology and up untill 4 years ago I built all of my computers. All the time spent is sorting the parts to be able to assemble them was well spent. Then 4 years ago it was time to start sorting the new technology and went to a Department store to see a technician I knew. He gave me the best bit of advice he could have and told me to go and check out a machine in the corner. Checked it out and it did everything I needed. And it was half the cost of the parts for me to assemble myself.

Still have that computer and other than I only have a 17" screen- It works fine. Nearly bought a new one at Christmas but decided to see how windows 7 will work. Still deciding but until I can't log onto 50+ I will stay with my ancient machine.

And the money saved by not buying a new computer should upgrade the OCR's wheel to something respectable.
