Modified Supernova E3 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/professor_john/4323964100/) I did this using some aluminum flashing I had left over from a home improvement project. The shield is attached to the E3 with two screws that go into holes I drilled and tapped into the aluminum block in the base of the E3. The advantages of this modification are: 1. Directs the light on the road where you want it. 2. Allows you to get an asymmetrical beam pattern that avoids shining the light directly into on-coming traffic 3. Allows you to point the light far enough out to avoid the close-in bright spot effect without shining it in the eyes of on-coming traffic. 4. The light reflected off the shield improves the bean pattern by making it more diffuse due to the light being reflected off the shield and onto the pavement. 5. Recaptures some of the light that would have been lost lighting up the trees. Note the shield is easily removed for off road use where a broader beam may be more desirable. I like the bright output of the E3 because my commute includes a 40 mph downhill on a completely unlit stretch of road.
