General Cycling Discussion - Bicycling Mag does a Human Cycling Interest story.

Many of us pick on Bicycling Magazine..Rightly so..I think they so glossy, I just do not trust their product reviews..They are just too glossy and not real.
However, in fairness, I do continue to subscribe...Almost each month they have a human interest story I connect with...
This month's story I like.."Me and My bike, A Love Story." What many of us think it corny? Maybe...But the author has a lot of current conflicts and past events he works out on the bike.. Many of us express these feelings daily here at BF...
I thought the story portrayed many of the needs I find wanted and fulfilled by my cycling...Anyone here read this story..? My question..The author worked out his plan on day 31..Final paragraph..He resolved a lot of issues and he planned on a midwest bike ride with his Dad...But, will the effects of his plan cause him to continue with his 31 day plan..After the results, I would think so?
So, in spite of Bicycling's flaws, I continue to subscribe..Besides, not much else out there..

What I liked about the story (other than it happend in New York City) was the fact the rider used an older bike and probably got more enjoyment out of it than many riders with new bicycles. He was actually able to go places and use the bike as a commuter/tourer because the bike was old! The road bikers with their high end carbon steeds spend all their time doing circles in Central Park. How boring.

Steve.That is what I love about cycling..It fulfills my need to explore..One thing I have been doing since a Kid in one form or another.. I appreciate the appreciation of just loving any bike, for all perform the same basic function..I myself use my oldest, most basic bike for exploring often..Particularily at night or in less than perfect weather..
But, I do not think it need be made a religion.. I cross the country, I do need a higer quality steed, than just traversing Brooklyn. Nothing wrong with appreciating a high quality ride when you want a light bike to really move out...

I thought the article was very well done. I appreciated his honesty in thought and deed both before and during his trial. For instance, the author had high aspirations to ride with a certain level of integrity, but then quickly abondoned that in favor of more utilitarian and lawless nature of travel; the author seemed conflicted about this fact.

I enjoyed his musings, descriptions and other inner conflicts that surfaced during his "plan." I agree that this particular article was a rare gem in that heap of marketing drivel labeled, "Bicycling."

How about a letter to the editor? I often find myself spending too much time complaining about things and not giving much positive feedback at all. Which is not to say y'all do the same... but you get the idea :D.
