for what its worth, i noticed dusty baker, manager of the chicago cubs, wearing one as i watched sundays game on tv. interesting, i reckon :-)
Good for Dusty!
(But not so random since Dusty is a cancer survivor (http://www.nmh.org/services/cancer_prostate/dusty_baker.html) himself.)
Noticed one on one of the female beach vollyball players (olympics) yesterday.

Jessica Simpson was wearing one once on her reality show "Newlyweds", rapper Fat Joe was wearing one during a Nike sponsored concert and at my last race (junior catagory 15-16) nobody would get caught dead with out one.

Had a canvasser come to our house selling the 2-for-1 entertainment booklets for wheelchair olympics. He was wearing a livestrong wristband and noticed mine. So, I just had to donate. BTW I donated to the Police Officer's association and within a month got pulled over by another district and STILL got a ticket for a traffic violation. What gives, I thought the donation was like an insurance policy.
I saw a guy on my flight coming home from LA last wednesday wearing one. He was also wearing a Livestrong t-shirt. He spotted my Livestrong bracelet, waved his and smiled at me. On a previous trip, both the pilot and copilot were wearing one.
We don't see alot here, but I have been asked at least a dozen times that people have heard of them and want to know what it stands for..

I think that John L. Smith (coach of Michigan State's football team) was wearing one....his wife has cancer. He was wearing it at the game vs. ND.
Everywhere I look, I see people wearing the bracelet in my school. I got mine from the mail from SuperSibs (a non-profit organisation for children/teens who have siblings with cancer). On the first day of school, I was like...wow! I never knew that all these people have a brother/sister with cancer! But then I found out that the band was giving the bracelet to all of the members to wear. And, everybody has started wearing them.
Whenever I'm watching football, I see at least one person wearing this bracelet.

Lance Armstrong supported the greek life here at Bowling Green, so there is an overwhelming number of them. And there are about 5 cyclists. I overheard one sorority girl saying that "this is just some stupid thing our sorority has us wear. I guess its Lance Armstrongs charity blah, blah, blah...". It took will power to keep me from slamming her head through a wall.

You have a stronger will than I do. I wanted to fly up to personally plant a boot in her sorority ho butt.

When I picked up my car from the body shop yesterday ($@# suv drivers), They had a big box of livestrong bands on the counter. They were giving them out for free to customers. They had a big sign on the box "No donations will be accepted for these". I was very happy to see they weren't trying to profit off of them.

Just a note from down south. We had two players on the roster last year with cancer and the Carolina Panthers started a white bracelet campaign here for them. "Keep Pounding" being the motto.

I thought all the livestrong bands were silicone rubber, not latex?
My question, is when someone sees me with mine on, they think I have some inside track on getting the yellow bands. I have had at least 25-30 people ask me if I had extras and when I say NO, they say, but I only want 1..

I don't have an interesting sighting to share, but I am still getting a kick out of people stopping me to ask where I got mine. A lady pulled up beside me in a parking lot last Saturday just to ask me where I got mine.

Yes you're right they are silcone. Check the LAF.org site

I made sure I bought five of them and have given a few out to people who ask, just have to go naked until I get home to get another one on my wrist.
On Saturday's ride, my buddy was giving me a goodnaturedly hard time about the Lance Band and how it's all a Nike conspiracy. Not too much later a pickup honks at us and a young kid leans out of the window holding up his band and waving. That's a lot nicer than what usually happens when a pickup honks at us.

Don't tease us....LOL....

Note of caution. If the guy isn't on a bike and you see a yellow wristband and they don't look like a cyclist. Most likely they are "ballers".
At my uni, 100% of the yellow wristband sightings were not the livestrong ones but the "baller bands" the ones with the swoosh on them which apparently the basketball stars trend-setted.

Operator...you are generalizing based on what is happening at your school.
Most of the yellow bracelets you see are LIVESTRONG. It is to support Cancer research, Cancer Patients, and Cancer Victims.
Maybe you should put signs up around the University explaining what the LIVESTRONG bracelets represent.
You have a stronger will than I do. I wanted to fly up to personally plant a boot in her sorority ho butt.
oi. she's not obligated to have any interest or connection to lance or his foundation. whether she's wearing it because she has to (we know how alive and well hazing is) or she thinks it looks cool, that's her perogative. nor does being part of a sorority make her a legitimate target for your abuse.
jesus.
back on topic, they seem to be accessory d'jour at the local high school. and i have a few i have no need or desire for - if you're itching and they're still back-ordered, send me a pm. i have five ready to go to happy homes.

I wasn't generalizing, I said just keep that in mind the next time you see a livestrong bracelet. It doesn't just happen at my school, I see it around town as well. (Uni is downtown, I live in the suburbs and commute by bike).
Here is the generalization. Basketball has a much wider appeal than cycling does. At least around here it does, that makes the actual livestrong bracelet sighting to other non-livestrong look-alike "baller bands" to be lower.
I think this whole Livestrong bracelet thing is for a great cause, but I question whether people wear it because its fashionable. I don't want to sound heartless, but now that everyone's got one, I really don't want one. I'd rather donate money to the cause and pass on the bracelet.

Keep in mind Nike makes these for the LAF, so it's no surprise they sell their own branded ones. This is possibly where the confusion comes from.
Oh, and there is a website out there where you can make your own custom livestrong-like bands...so we could have say a bikeforums.com band, or a "OMG ROFLCOPTER!!1111one" band (netgeek joke).

Operator, catatonic,
I think what Operator was talking about are these Nike Baller ID Bands (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7105504284&category=21195#ebayphotohosting)
I saw these at the NikeTown store in NYC and I believe they are for IDing your teamates during pickup games. I'm pretty sure their only relation to the LiveStrong bands are that they are made by Nike.

Uh, huh huh huh huh. He said, "Baller." Huh huh huh huh huh.
Sorry. Couldn't help myself
I still wear mine every day and see lots of other folks wearing one.
Saw a kid who rode his bike to school wearing one on Wednesday while I was working at the Safe Routes to School project. Showed him mine and got a big smile from him. People ask about the armband all the time. Then they want to know where to get one. Have to tell them that the last supply I found sold out two weeks ago.
I was going to retire mine at the end of summer but a colleague's wife is now undergoing chemotherapy so I've kept wearing it daily as a symbol of support.

Livestrong wristbands are close to unobtainable in Canada. Not only that, hardly anyone knows about them, and hardly anyone asks. Was on a TBN ride today, at the dinner/stopover ride leader remarked that I was the first guy he's seen wearing a band and asked where I got one.
I said I got one sent from the states.
And yes the "Nike balled id bands" is what I was talking about. They have exactly the same dimensions, looks the same (save for different colours) and don't have Livestrong printed on them.
Theyre all over the place here in Chapel Hill NC. And apparently theyve hit the elementary schools, too--my little brother asked me if I could get him one last time I was home. Apparently most of the kids wear them on their ankles because theyre too large for their wrists.
One of the actors on a soap I watch was wearing one. Also, the manager of the LBS where I got my bike wears one, since they sell the darned things.
