I tried to search for this; honest.

There must be a way to lock the lever motionless on an aero lever from drop bars, no?

I don't want to remove the lever. I just want keep it from rattling.

It's a Shimano SLR 600.

Thanks!

I have some old Aero Grand Compe levers that have built-in return springs so the levers won't rattle or droop without a brake cable attached. Maybe you can find something similar.

I drilled a tiny hole in some old dia compes and put a slightly bigger screw to lock it into place. It's hardly noticable with the rubber hoods, especially since it's on the underside of the moustache bars.

To get rid of the rattle, I gutted the cable barrel.

Yeah, so I should get rid of the cable barrel.

So you screwed the lever to the body?

It has the spring return, but I'm betting it will still rattle; haven't tried it yet, though.

Yeah, screwed it to the body. I'll try to show a picture when I get home from work. My lever didn't have a return spring.

I shoved a bunch of painters tape where your insert the cable. stopped the rattling.

I used a broken spoke where the cable should go.

That looks really great.

sram levers flop around, as there is no return spring. i put some cable in there, pulled it tight, then taped it up. the lever doesn't move around now.

Modolo levers have a return spring.

If you are not using the rear lever as a brake, but want to keep it on for the "hood" position, just saw the distal 75% of the lever off. Then you still have the hood and proximal end of the lever to hold onto. The lever won't flop around.

If you can't stomach the look of the asymmetry, then you have more important things to worry about, like the fact that your drive train is only on one side..

That's brilliant. I now have an afternoon project.

How is that brilliant? One pull of that lever and its going to be stuck against the handlebar, and possibly tear, or at least displace, the bar tape.

my favourite solution is running it to a bell. Have a housing run to the end of the bar tape, and run the cable out to the 'flick lever' of a bell. It's pretty darn cool

That would be better if you would cut the spoke real short and thread a bent end through the moving cable endstop, then tighten a spoke nipple where the cable housing stop is on the lever.

I really like the bell idea though.

Another option would be to use that Problem Solvers mechanism to have both levers operate the front brake. The part costs a little money, but it is a neat and convenient solution.

Hook it up to bell.

you'd have to be a moron to use the brake lever on the side you know isn't hooked up to anything...
:innocent:

it won't tear the bar tape, I tried it. It will stick however.

the only thing that prevented me from doing that is that my spoke was long.

i just put a zip tie through the cable barrel and out through the front hole of the lever and pulled tight.. id love to see pics of a lever hooked to a bell

Modolo levers have a return spring.

Yeah, they work fantastic as dummy levers
