Mountain Biking - Anyone using platform pedals, what kind of shoes do you ride in?

My fee tkeep slipping off my pedals when I do simple things like bunnyhops. Yesterday I stabbed myself in the shin with a pin from my pedal (it's been lke 18 hours and it hasn't fully stopped bleeding...) and I think it's probably because there's almost no tread left on the bottom of these shoes.
Anyone got any recommendations for a nice grippy shoe to use with platform pedals?

My one and only pair right now: B-Ball And 1 Racer Shoes.
Not really good for platform, try something with a lot of grooves at the bottom to grip onto the studs.
Ouch...bleeding that long? Any serious bleeding, go to the doctor or do these rules that I learned in lifesaving
Rest the affected part
Elevate the part
Direct pressure using gauze or something, but don't remove the gauze once it's soaked. You need sterile pads to prevent infection. If you do do this, make sure to visit a hospital so they can properly remove the bandages.

a lot of the guys on here use platform pedals. most – if not all – will tell you that any pair of skater shoes would work really well with them. myself, i got a pair of vans that i use for riding and they’re pretty good for grip.
you might also want to invest in some shin guards to prevent ripping up your shins further. i’ve got a pair of 661 knee/shin guards that i almost always wear when riding.

Sounds like a similar injury to mine at the beginning of the year. Took 3 months to heal and a couple of infections...
Ok...good flats won't help you. Once you get the hang of having pedals stick to you you can ride most. I can bunny hop a crappy old bike with cage style. Otherwise I prefer wllgo's over anything. Oh and get body armour and practice. Pedal slippage is part of the fun of learning. We all go through it, our shins get damn strong in the process :)

Oh yeah...skate shoes grip best :)

Yeah, I think I might just buy some shin guards.
And it's not bleeding a lot, just a little bit. It's a small hole, and I can cover it with a regular bandaid, but after a couple hours the bandaid gets pretty bloody. This latest bandaid doesn't seem to be as bad as the last one, though. Basically, I got stabbed in the shin with one of the pins on a Kona Jacksh!t pedal, not a big wound, but it hit me right on the bone.
I guess I'll just buy a new pair of Vans or something.

I use a pair of Six Six ones, do the job for me, the grip is deep and staggered, so it fits in well with the pins on your Platforms :)
I've got a pair of Sketchers Work boots that do the trick for me.

I ride in a pair of Etnies...
make sure to get some skate shoes without the air-soles. Get the flexy souls.. you can grip the pedal the best in those. At least that's what I've found.

I use Vans,Airwalk,Tredsafe,Sketchers, and a pair of sandals. basically any thing with a waffle or similar grip digs in nicely for me. I just put a pair of Primo Tenderizersd on today and they did fine with my tredsafes and my sandals too. I use the tredsafe in the wet cuz they dig in like Im part of the pedal and wont let go unless I pull up on my shoe from the pedal

i had the same problem 2 and am actually recovering from it still. I recently bought a pare of sixsixone shin guards and dont ride without them anymore.

Shimano DX pedals with Vans. I like them both a lot.
I second the vote for a pair of shin guards. Nothing like a block of aluminum with pins turning your legs into tenderized meat!
Vans were THE bmx shoe back in the day.. the OG ones with the gum rubber sole... really soft and flexy.

I have found that Vans & Oakleys work very good for me. I used the Oaks for over a year they worked that good

I use a pair of Vans. Besides for skating it is like they were made for mountain biking. The bottom of the shoe is made really unique that it feels as if your pedals are your feet. Which is really good for balancing. I haven't had occurences of them slipping off. They have only come off because I did a jump. So I would sugest skater shoes.

Get some sixsixone launch bmx shoes, they are really cheap ($44) and they can take a lot of abuse because they are designed for platforms. I ordered my pair with a set of platforms, they are exellent
