Hybrid Bicycles - pedals pedals pedals ?

Hey all

went on a sirrus sport and a 7.5fx yesterday and looooooved the 7.5fx !!!!

they only thing is on both bikes i didn't like the pedals. Are they cheap and do all
bikes come with rubbishy pedals or am i wrong ??? sorry i am a novice :lol:

What do most upgrade to ?? dont want any type of clip stuff as bike only for
commuting so prob lust rugged shoes used to cycle so just need a good
pedal suggestion OR am i wrong and the pedals on new biks are ok ??

Almost all bikes come with cheap pedals. The reason for it is there are as many differing opinions on what pedals to use as there are bicycles.

The pedals that come with your bike will be fine to ride around on. They generally last just fine, though you may decide though that you actually want some pedals that are useful.

If you don't want clips or anything, there's a wide selection of platform pedals out there.

Yup - those cheap pedals on the Trek 7.5 FX are throw-aways. Find some you like. And overhaul them if they are loose-bearing pedals - with cups & cones. Here is an ongoing thread on this subject:

i seem to have narrowed it down to dmr v8 OR primo super tenderiser pedals.

is it 9/16" size i need ?? as primo are for bmx
and they list 2 sizess , lol sorry if its a daft question...

If you're gonna go with platform pedals, I suggest you go with sealed bearings. They are more expensive but are virtually maintenance free. Here (http://www.amazon.com/REDLINE-Flight-Magnesium-Platform-Bearing/dp/B000YBHOOU) is an example from Amazon, but there are plenty of other choices available. Just my 2 cents, FWIW. :D

Yes you want 9/16th's for your Trek 7.5 FX. 9/16th is the standard size pedal-thread used on the vast majority of bicycles in current production. Older one-piece Ashtabula cranks found on older 3-speed bikes take a 1/2 inch pedal.

I ride a Raleigh Route 1. When I replaced the stock platforms, I orderd Power Grips. They do give me a greater sense of connection to the bike, but no special shoes are required.

I've never bought the clip ins and special shoes, but I think this is a good pedal for hybrids.

I ride those on my former 7.5 FX. They are nice - but do really require toe-clips. I like toe-clips so they were a perfect match for me.

One caveat: Overhaul the pedals before use. They come bone-dry and overly tightened on the cones.

I recently bought some very inexpensive half-clips to try, but haven't used them yet. My feet are pretty wide, and full clips are often very difficult to get into. I think I'll like these (http://www.amazon.com/Delta-Bicycle-Strapless-Toe-Clips/dp/B000FSQQMS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1266717097&sr=8-1) but time will tell. Once the freaking snow melts.

If riding w/o toe clips and straps, or clipless pedals, you might as well go for double sided pedals. Easier to use and lots of models available as they are widely used for BMX and Downhill riding as well as by many city riders. I just bought a pair of the VO Touring Pedals. Sealed bearings and quite light weight all metal construction. I wanted the added traction of the grip pins or might have gotten their City Pedals.

MKS Sylvian Touring are a nice set of double sided pedals for Just Riding Along. You can use them with or without toe clips.
They are maintainable cup and cone bearings with a nylon seal. I use them in rainy winters and the grease stays where it should.

I've been hibernating in a steel cage called a car since early november. I brought my '10 7.5fx into the shop for the winter tune up tuesday. I ended up picking up a new set of pedals for my commuter. I never used clip-ins before, but I disliked the straps. I am going to pick up a pair of shoes at the end of the month. By then the snow should be gone and the rain hopefully have washed away the salt. The selling point for me was the low profile and duel use. I hope they work out. Maybe it is something to consider.

I am kinda confused about what make one set of pedals better than the other, when you say bad pedals,do you mean your foot slips off from it or the pedal won't keep your foot in place? only complain i have on my stock Wellgo pedals is one of my foot will slip off when i change to lower gear when pedalling hard,share some light with me,thanks.

dude, hop on craigslist and see whats out there for pedals. i was looking for a pair of SPDs and found a guy selling a new set for like 35 bucks shipped. When he said new, he meant they weren't even pulled out of the box yet! Cleats still in there too!
